Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice CameraI have had this camera for several weeks and I love it! This is my fifth Canon digital camera and it is the best one of them all. My previous camera is an 80D which I love too, and will still use in certain situations, like when I want extra reach with a telephoto lens. The EOS R was a great choice for my first full frame camera. I am impressed with its sharpness, dynamic range and high ISO capabilities. Anyone familiar with Canon menus will find it a fairly easy adjustment to use this camera. I love that I can use my EF lenses. My 24-105 and 16-35 f/4 "L" lenses work great with the adaptor. I also like that it has a totally silent shutter capability, absolutely no sound at all. The EVF is bright and sharp and I love that you can see in real time what the exposure will look like. I look forward to using this camera for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from what I like on the canon eos rI really like the fact the its like a carbon copy of the EOS 6d mkii as for the touch screen and menu. also like like that what you see on the screen and High resolution EVF, is what you get the rich colors, very good dynamic range, and great eye auto focus, and the shuffer closing to protect the sensor, and being able to transfer files wifi, very important for paying clients using 1 card slot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go To Body!Purchased my R when first introduced last October. Purchased the adapter control ring as well to take full advantage of my EF glass.Camera body ergonomics are excellent. Grip fits very nicely and comfortably into my hand. I use this body exclusively for my real estate work since it performs so well in low light conditions common to my assignments. I found the custom assignment of the buttons and dials to be intuitive and reliable. This is a well designed, feature-rich body that delivers as promised. The lack of IBIS is not an issue for me since my EF lenses all work seamlessly with the adapter ring. Will be purchasing the next gen version when it comes out later this year to replace my MK IV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing camera, amazing new R systemI love almost everything about this camera. Even most the things people are complaining about. The image quality is second to none. The sensor level focusing is a total game changer. No more calibrating lenses, and it nails focus every time, even with something like the 50 1.8 wide open. Just incredible. I have no problem with the touch bar, and I use it. The new RF lenses are ultra sharp all the way through the zoom, even wide open. I make my living as a photographer, and I'm fine with one card slot. If you absolutely have to have dual cards, obviously not the camera for you. I also don't shoot much video. So, if you also must have different video specs, also not the camera for you. Onward... It's super light and is more comfortable to hold than any dslr I have owned or tried. I have big hands, not a problem. Build quality is everything you would expect from a top end Canon camera. The only thing I don't like about this camera is that the rear screen turns on every time I take the camera away from my face. I want it to act like a dslr... off except for image review and menu. I have not found a way to do this. If I turn it off, it's really off. Everything is through the viewfinder. Annoying, but no big deal. I'm tired of typing now, so I will sum it all up with "Awesome!" So glad I bought it. I was a little on the fence about it after reading and watching all the reviews. I've found that a lot of the negative review aspects are easily corrected with custom settings, are blown way out of proportion are simply not even true. This camera is a dream come true for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EOS (R)adAs a photographer and theme park vlogger, I wanted a camera that could handle both photo and video seamlessly and instantaneously. The lighter, the better. For a while, I had been using a Canon 6D for photography and a Canon SL2 for vlogging. However, carrying the two cameras and constantly switching between them was a hassle, so I decided to sell the two cameras and preorder the Canon EOS R, as it seemed that it was the perfect camera to do both. When I recieved the camera on release day, I couldn't be happier!PROSIt feels amazing. It's lightweight. It uses both EF/EF-S lenses. Superb image quality. Beautiful low light photo AND video. Snappy AF. Touch & drag AF works amazing. C-LOG! Long battery life. Looks slick. Seamless & quick switch from photo mode to video mode. There are too many pros to list.CONS?(They don't bother me but they apparently bother others!Cropped 4K - 1080p is crisp and is just fine for my work. I don't have the time to sit around and wait for 4K video to import/export anyways. One SD card slot - Too many people worry about this WAY too much. It's 2018, you can automatically back up photos to your device via the camera's Wi-Fi. I've tried it and it works perfect if you're absolutely worried about losing files. No in-body stabalization - just hold the camera steady, if you can't, digital IS is fine. All of my lenses happen to have IS so once again, this doesn't affect me.Overall, it's an amazing camera. Anyone completely bashing probably doesn't have anything better to do and hasn't even seen one in person. Get one and use it to death. Any camera you buy nowadays will be great. The EOS R works for me and maybe it'll work for you too. If you know what you're doing, you'll have lots of fun with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great DecisionFirst, you should know that I suffer from a genetic abnormality common to many men of Scottish ancestry. I have deep pockets, but extraordinarily short arms. LOL. Spending money on a new camera is something that I don’t do lightly. I’ve also been in the Canon ecosystem for quite a few years now. My wife and I started with Rebel T3i’s some years ago, then moved to 80D’s for the past year or two. Between us, we’ve invested a significant amount of money in both EF and EFS lenses, and other Canon specific equipment. As our skill levels and photography requirements have advanced, we’ve both been discussing the move to a full frame platform, but we were really struggling with the idea of how much of our expensive lens inventory we’d have to leave behind. We were also hesitant to invest a large sum of money into an expensive camera like the 5DmIV and others because the future seems to be moving toward mirrorless. We wanted to make sure our investment was ‘future proof’. Then they announced the EOS R. We’ve been continually impressed with the quality of our Canon cameras, so we eagerly read a lot of the negative comments and watched all of the ‘disappointed’ reviews of the EOS R on YouTube, but as we looked over the specs for this camera, it’s competitive and contemporary feature set and price, I just couldn’t imagine we’d be disappointed by the purchase. Now I can tell you I absolutely made the right decision when I purchased this camera. I’ve been shooting with the EOS-R for a few of weeks now, and every day I’m blown away by its incredible quality and every day there are new capabilities I’m learning about. It’s the perfect solution to all of our needs. I had a long and specific list of features that I needed satisfied in order to justify the purchase of a new camera: I needed a full frame, mirrorless platform. Competitive pixel count and specifications. 4K video. Good low light performance. Common Canon interface (I didn’t want to relearn an entire ecosystem), a STABLE platform, and access to ALL of the lenses I already own. There was only one camera that checked EVERY box, and that was the EOS-R. The value proposition with this camera is just enourmous. It’s built on the same platform as the 5DmIV, which remains a very well regarded platform for both still and video photography. It’s quality and low-light performance is exceptional, and it’s also incredibly stable, which was a very deliberate (and frankly brilliant) move by Canon. By basing it on a rock solid and well regarded current platform they’ve ensured that their new offering will offer high quality AND be completely stable. And, even though it has every competitive modern feature that most shooters could want, it still won’t suffer the bugs and failures that are inevitable with completely new designs. I can’t tell you how happy I am with the fit and finish of this camera, and the extreme quality of the images. A $99 adapter gave me access to every lens I own, complete with all of the stabilization and autofocus functions, and… BIG bonus here… when I mount one of my EF-S lenses on the R – the camera automatically handles the crop factor. How elegant. And, as someone who’s actually owned and shot an EOS R for the past few weeks, I feel I’m qualified to also talk about all the negative comments you might hear about – which are all being made by people who don’t actually own or use it. Here are some of the things that you’ll hear from ‘disappointed’ non owners. 1. Lack of two card slots – Who cares. Older CF cards were somewhat prone to corruptions, but contemporary SD cards are rock solid and it’s extremely rare that they become corrupted. I’m not concerned. 2. Cropped in 4K shooting. Again, who cares. So does the 5D. So do many FF cameras. I purchased an inexpensive EF-S wide angle to overcome this (see the rave about the adapter below). Problem solved. And… I can answer anyone’s who has questions about the video capabilities of this camera with one term. C LOG. The EOS R has it built in. That’s should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of the video available on the R. 3. And finally, the lack of IBIS. I’m boggled by why anyone is surprised or ‘disappointed’ by this. Canon has made it very clear that they believe that moving IS to the lenses results in much higher quality stabilization because it’s specifically tailored to each lenses geometry. They believe IBIS to be inferior because it’s too broad. No Canon made has ever had In Body Image Stabilization. I can’t imagine they ever will given Canon’s design preferences. It certainly not an issue for me. Don’t let those who don’t own or have never shot an EOS R talk you out of one of the better decisions you can make. Just a quick example of what life is like with the EOS-R: I’ve been agonizing over the purchase of one of the more expensive Canon EF 70-200 lenses, and struggling with the difference in price between the F4 version of the lens, and the way more expensive F2.8 version. Apart from the fact that it’s awesome that even with the R’s new RF mount, I still have access to Canon’s entire existing EF and EFS inventory, I’ve also discovered that the low light performance of the EOS-R is so much better that it makes the significantly lower priced F4 version of the lens perform to a level where it’s not even a worry. I recommend the EOS R VERY highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magnificent Cameracoming from a canon eos 80d I can say that the jump that I have given with this camera is abysmal, with all its specifications I have more than enough. excellent approach, magnificent sharpness, excellent view and argonomy, and excellent colors and textures, I've been with her for a month and I have not yet found any problem. as an amateur photographer covers all my expectations and needs
