Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cameraI have used the sx50 and 60 before so I got the 70 for the extra megapixels and what I found is the controls are all in great places, easy to find. The camera is a great size for traveling and for a full day of photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing!Loved many of the features of this camera especially the viewfinder. Would have been a great camera for taking bird photos except that the image quality was generally poor. I returned the camera and will stick with my SX50 until hopefully Canon produces a revised version of the SX70.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade for worn out sx40There were so many features on my older camera that I didn't want to lose, including the optical sight. This is new and improved

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade!I waited patiently for the SX70, owning the SX50, SX60, and now this one. The upgrade is excellent, with better clarity, fast focus, and the shutter response is "cleaner". I love the panoramic function and I found it best utilized to widen shots a bit. Too wide of a scan flattens the overall image. The low-light function is novel and takes clear photos, but you must be patient and steady with the longer exposure. The grisly black-and-white function is also interesting and brings in a stronger grainy-look than I can accomplish with my editing software. Shifting to black-and-white across several settings is helpful, such as Program, AV, TV, etc. The batteries in this upgrade are new, but last just as well as the ones used on the 50 and 60 models. The size is comparable to the prior models, so no need for bag upgrades either. I just love it. Thank-you, Canon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a Bridge Camera! It's better than that~!I needed a smaller camera that is not too professional looking as my 5DMiii. MLB has cracked down on what type of camera is allowed into Major League Baseball stadiums and spring training complexes. So for 2 yrs I didn't go to spring training to take pictures of the players, which is my passion. That's how I got into photography, for sports photography. And because of photography that is how I met my wife! She is also a photographer with even better skills than me! Anyway, I finally broke down and bought this lower level camera and decided to put it to the test! To my surprise it has feature that my go to camera has. You can shoot in Manual, Aperture priority or Shutter priority! You can shoot in RAW and you can adjust the settings on a fly to raise your shutter speed and adjust your aperture to take great shots! It has the latest Digic 8 image processor, image stabilizer, and just the feel of it makes it easy to fit in your hand and light enough to carry the WHOLE DAY! I was pleasantly surprised right out of the box! I had this camera for just 3 weeks and shot just 3 weekends with this and don't let it's small footprint fool you! This is a great camera! The photos prove it and it's so good that I can't wait to take it to spring training this coming year and use the powerful zoom to get just the right shot! I'm also taking this camera to Europe next month! So let me repeat: features that rival the professional cameras that canon has. A small learning curve to get acquainted with it's features and what limitations it has compared to a full blown DSLR. And you too can be taking beautiful pictures! cons: NOT A DSLR it does have limitations but for an ALL AROUND TOWN camera it's THE BOMB!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly As AdvertisedThis camera is a great travel camera and performs exceedingly well for what it is designed to do. Part of the problem with the reviewers here is they are asking the camera to be what it is not. I have over 50 cameras and can honestly say few perform as advertised. It is a compromise between portability and light capturing. It is not a night camera at full lens extension. I am a semi-pro with 40 years of experience and only dreamed of a versatile camera like this in my kit. It is fun, convenient and versatile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camera is just as I hoped it would be.This is my 3rd. Canon. I have had the camera for 3 weeks. It has worked great. The zoom lens is great for birds, focus is fast and sharp, and the macro is way better than expected. My only complaint is DPP for processing RAW images is very slow on my computer. I use DNG from Adobe to convert them now it works fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT BUILD QUALITY / SUB PAR IMAGESThis camera has a fantastic fit to it. The grip, the metal and the rubber are all at perfection. Now add a DIGIC 8 processor technology to this camera and this is really a stand-out leader in the simple Point & Shoot camera.... It performs.Well, it sort of performs...I've had minimal time with it (in fairness. I also come from Canon L-Series lens with great EOS SLR bodies. A sort of BMW in performance. So when I took on the SX70 HS, my expectations were high. Like everyone else, we need a quick POINT & SHOOT to do a job often. The camera is gifted with a sub-par 1/2 Inch CMOS sensor. I can stop right there and say that Canon had a nearly perfect high-end Point & Shoot and put a economy 4-cylinder engine in it with a really poor sensor. So not worthy of a basic CMOS sensor.Battery life seems acceptable (carry a spare). Strap is far too short (unless you are less than 5 ft).I can't find a filter yet. I can't even find the size.Canon has introduced a really great entry-level Point & Shoot camera but it lacks in its CMOS sensor which greatly affects the overall quailty of every shot you will take.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from needs work :( maybe look back at A550 AND S3ISi took some photo and notice this fuzz and haze around the photo of that I was taking i can post some photos and you can see what I saw in this and hopefully canon would make the currents in future models if not this one the fuzz and haze was one issue and the other issue I have is that with this model you cannot set the fine and the normal yourself. it has to be done by the camera depending on the size you select and the file size are way too large for email, and especially if you are doing 100 to 50 photos at a time. who has time to stop and make those adjustments with a windows paint program on the PC when the camera should be doing that this SX70 camera offers only Still Images:1 16:9 – Large: 5184 x 2912; Medium: 3648 x 2048; Small: 2432 x 13682) 3:2 – Large: 5184 x 3456; Medium: 3648 x 2432; Small: 2432 x 16163) 4:3 – Large: 5184 x 3888; Medium: 3648 x 2736; Small: 2432 x 18244) 1:1 – Large: 3888 x 3888; Medium: 2736 x 2736; Small: 1824 x 1824this camera does not offer the option to use superfine. only fine and normal and that is the choice of the camera not you which is nice if you have a BIG printer doing things at one spot but what they fail to miss that most photos are emailed and no one has time to go thru 100 photos and do all that when this should be done by the camera, its why there are settings for this However I do love the zoom feature the size of the camera might be a wee bit too big. guess I was so use to my old S3 ISA550Still Images: 640 x 480 ), 1,600 x 1,200 (Medium 3), 2,048 x 1,536 (Medium 2), 2,592 x 1,944 (Medium 1), 3,072 x 2,304 (Large), 3,072 x 1,728 (Widescreen)which has these settings and aLL should have the same options for smaller file sizes and making your own choices to use superfine and fine Fuji s9000 Still Images and Movie sizesQuality setting 9M 9N Number of pixels 3488 X 2616 Lrg WideImage data size 4.5 MB 2.2 MB Quality setting 3:2Number of pixels 3696x2464 LrgImage data size 2.2 MB Quality setting 5m Number of pixels Med1 2592x1944 Image data size 1.2 MB Quality setting 3mNumber of pixels Med2 2048 X 1536Image data size 780 KB Quality setting 2m Number of pixels Med3 1600 X 1200 Image data size 630 KB Quality setting 0.3m Number of pixels Sma 640X 480 Image data size 130 KBMovie sizesQuality setting Raw (30 fps) Number of pixels 640X 480 Image data size 18.8 MBQuality setting 640 (30 fps)Number of pixels 320x240 Image data size - -

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good featuresI purchased the SX70 HS to suppliment my SX30 which is a wonderful old camera working great after many years. The new camera does not focus well over the entire range i was told it cannot be fixed by the service center and offered a replacement of a different camera.
