The Cisco® MDS 9706 Multilayer Director is suitable for small to medium storage networks and is cloud ready. It features a protocol-independent switch fabric. The Cisco SAN switch works with virtualized environments and has the same OS and management interface as other switches from the same brand. It can deploy fibre channel, fibre channel over Ethernet and IBM Fibre Connection unified fabrics. The Cisco multilayer switch consolidates data into fewer and larger SANs for a reduced hardware footprint. It supports virtual SANs and Inter-VSAN routing.

The networking switch supports up to 192 10 Gbps FCoE, 96 40-Gbps FCoE or 32 Gbps Fibre Channel ports and a nonblocking system-level switching capacity of up to 11.5 Tbps. It works with intelligent fabric services and provides multihop FCoE for converged SAN and LAN environments with lossless Ethernet. The device has built-in telemetry and SAN analytics features. A fully dedicated network processor performs calculations in real time.
