I think the hard drive may have been bad before the warranty period was up and I just didn't realize it. A friend recommended a SSD so I started looking. Crucial verified compatibility, price was right and cloning/install was easy peasey. Laptop runs like it's brand new now!! Thanks so much!

The only replacement offered by Apple (at the store) was a SATA drive. This SSD drive was the same size and slightly less cost than the SATA drive, because Apple was also going to install it. One word of warning, you need to purchase a hard drive that is compatible with the components of your computer and Apple is constantly changing them. It was so easy to purchase the correct hard drive on Crucial. Once Apple confirmed the build (Macbook Pro 13, 2012) was able to select it from the menu. We installed the hard drive ourselves (how to video on YouTube) , then had Apple install the OS, and luckily we had backupped just a week before it crashed. That is the one takeaway - back up your hard drive at least monthly if not weekly to an external drive - they are so cheap now. The computer is so much faster with this SSD drive. My son composes music and he tells me it takes 5 seconds to write something to the drive that previously took over a minute. So all you people with Macbook Pros with SATA drives have to consider upgrading to this SSD drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 byTommyRottn from Faster than I thoughtI put this in an old Dell Vostro 230. I knew I wasn't going to get full speeds out of it because of the older SATA interface. But I was really surprised when I got 200+ MBps on sequential reads and about 40 MBps on random reads / writes. This was about twice what I expected. (NOTE: Your mileage may vary, this is not a guarantee.) I considered buying an SSD from someone else, but I was already buying memory from Crucial and oddly enough, they had the best price for this size when I was making my purchase. I'm impressed and I like it.

The USB cable and connector to the SSD is very useful and is much better than the old casing technology.thanks Crucial/Micron.
