Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features and power! I am a software developer and bought this to replace a MacBook pro. I have been a Mac user for 15+ years. I got tired of carrying around dongles and the lack of being able to replace/upgrade memory an hard drives. So I research and decided on the HP ZBook Studio. The build quality is pretty good. The keyboard is by far better than my MacBook (2017). The track pad is a little smaller than the MacBook but performs almost as well. The screen is fantastic and I love the touchscreen and the fact that it is a convertible. I can upgrade the memory and hard drive. You can't do that on a Mac! Now I just have to get use to development on Windows, but it's going well! I would definitely by another HP!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome laptop, with some quirks. This is the best laptop I've owned, but had some flaws I had to fix before it got to that point. Gripes: 1. Mine had some technical issues when it arrived, which I resolved on my own since there were no laptops in stock to replace it with. The SSD hard drive was missing the plastic shield normally found on top (missed during assembly), which meant the hard drive was shorting out on the bottom of the case and causing Windows to crash and the computer to not even boot sometimes. Was "fun" figuring that out. Also, the firmware was out of date, causing the hard drive to crash and also be very slow. Worked through those issues and the laptop was perfect...sort of. 2. The audio is awful. Terrible. Unusable. I expected so much better from a 4-speaker setup. I design speakers as a hobby, and the B&O config software has an extremely annoying dynamic volume compression. You'd be listening to a song, and as soon as there would be a pause in the bass track, the volume would get VERY loud, then once the bass track returned, the volume would drop drasticaly again. The speakers were absolutely unusable for music listening. Setting the mode to Voice disabled that feature but sounded absolutely awful. The solution was to install Boom 3D from the Microsoft store, then use my acoustic measurement microphone with SynRTA to adjust the 31-band EQ (see attachment for settings). The speakers now sound GOOD. It's nonetheless annoying that I had to do this in the first place. 3. Being a prebuilt laptop, I didn't have the WWAN card, but this 4K display (not the dreamcolor one) actually has WWAN antenna wires run. I added the card, but then ran into an inexplicably annoying issue: the SIM card. Unlike my other laptops which had the SIM card slot somewhere on the motherboard, this one gets inserted from the side with a push-click plunger mechanism. You insert the card, it goes in 3/4 of the way, then it gets spring loaded. You push the card in further, and once fully inserted, it clicks and locks in place. To remove, push it farther in, and the spring ejects it. Very common method. Problem is, the laptop came with a placeholder for the SIM card slot (which is on the side of the laptop), and that "dummy" placeholder had a section notched out where the spring plunger would normally go! As a result, it was nearly impossible to get it out, since you couldn't just push it in and eject it. I had to get an extremely sharp knife point, poke it, and slowly lift it out without marring the polished alloy finish on the side. Far more work than it should have been. There's just no reason to make it so difficult. Ok, now for the good stuff. 1. The 4k screen is gorgeous. The colors are more vibrant than any display I own in my home. I've been officially spoiled. It is absolutely amazing and a joy to use. Speaking of joys to use... 2. The keyboard and touch pad are excellent. The touch pad clicks like a solid thud, not a plastic tap or click. It exudes a rigidity and quality to this laptop that you expect from a premium piece of hardware. The keyboard feels like you're typing on a solid block of aluminum. There is no give to it anywhere and no rattles. The glass touchpad is also the best I've ever used and much bigger than I expected. 3. Some reviews complain about the hingest, but I've found them to be very good. Any time I'm using the pen, the laptop is in tablet mode, and any quick work while the tablet is open is just fine. Some have noted that the hingest are really tight when you first open the laptop; those aren't the hingest. The laptop actually has magnets inside that keep the lid tight against the body. 4. I bough this laptop so I can work from home since my wife will be having a baby soon, and my other 3 kids love being able to watch videos on it with me in tablet mode. It has a lot of entertainment uses. What really surprised me was the graphics. I've been playing SnowRunner at 1080p with medium-high settings, and also The Outer Worlds at medium-high settings. To be able to play new titles like that at 1080p with fluid framerates is quite impressive. I didn't buy it FOR gaming, but it does surprisingly well. 5. Speaking of performance, the CPU is great, and doesn't thermal throttle too bad. At max stress on all 6 cores simultaneously, it drops down to 2.9-3.0 GHz which is still above the base clock. Not bad at all! The wireless card is very fast as well. Running on our Netgear Orbi setup, it's transferring our full bandwidth at 330mb/sec. I upgraded the RAM to 32GB using HyperX Impact RAM sticks which have exceptionally low latency. 6. Of course, the looks. The laptop is absolutely gorgeous. It's a permium piece of hardware and it shows. While heavy, it's pretty thin and very sleek. Overall, I would highly recommend the laptop. The issues I had with hardware were just slips in quality control that I wouldn't expect anyone else to have, and you can fix the audio issues by just tuning the EQ like I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Defective ? Got the computer and literally my WHOLE BUSINESS was reliant on it and guess what ITS DEFECTIVE !! Keypad doesn’t work and it would take forever to process the face recognition and fingerprinted . Granted, this lag may be due lack of necessary updates, but I can’t do the updates when the trackpad isn’t responsive and the computer won’t retain downloads. It would t even shut down properly . Frustrated is an understatement and this whole “exchange/return” process has been a complete disaster !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool conputer I'm no computer expert, but needed something that could handle some video and photo editing in add'n to standard email, browsing, etc. This thing is awesome. Display mode blew away interviewers the other day with a simple PowerPoint set up. Graphics are awesome, IMO. Pen is great and the comp runs Lightroom and Premier Pro very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Laptop and Great Customer Service I purchased this laptop to use as a drawing tablet and writing utensil for my personal life. It is everything I needed and more. This laptop is very powerful it can handle all sorts of multi media projects and the pen that comes with it works great. I am left handed and it is able to adjust for that which is so great for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fan issue - fix will take weeks Fan ran excessively from the beginning. Worked with HP and did all the recommended troubleshooting steps. It would stop for a while then come back. Two months in and it's still happening, now with a rattling sound. Tech support (finally) said they need to replace the fan. Will take them 3 business days to ship a box. Then 7 to 10 business days to fix + undetermined Covid-19 delay. I asked for a replacement laptop - but that option expired in 30 days. Super frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Laptop, for the most part. I bought this laptop as sort of an upgrade for school and art. My previous laptop was an HP Chromebook, and I was very excited to test this one out. I LOVE the graphics on this computer, extremely sharp and the audio is very good. For the most part, I would recommend this laptop, however there is one thing I'm unsatisfied with, and that's the battery life. My old Chromebook could last 6+ with 10+ tabs open, on a full charge and max screen brightness, etc. The battery on this laptop drains incredibly quickly, and it's definitely way below what I expected from a laptop that had this price tag. I have to plug it in every 2-3 hours because of how quickly the battery life goes down. In conclusion, this laptop is a great investment, as long as you don't mind carrying the charger everywhere ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functions disappearing I loved the computer when it arrived, but within six months the SD card reader quit working -- Customer support can't figure it out. Also, the display auto-rotate feature disappeared with a Windows update. I'm not happy. Other than that, the computer is great.
