Typical USB-C docks (this laptop doesn't have thunderbolt don't support multiple displays, with this dock I am driving 2 4k displays (along with the built-in laptop display). The rest of the ports work as expected. The only gripe is the side connector feels tight at first - it is trying to line up and connect 3x ports on the laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works, but!! In my use case, the laptop sits semi-permenantly on a table aside my work space. It is connected to an external monitor, keyboard, mouse and headphones. I turn off all power via a wall-mounted power strip each evening. I power it up each morning The laprop is seldom removed from the dock unless I need it at some other location - which is uncommon, but is frequent enough that a laptop is wanted rather than a small tower. Unfortunately the dock video connection does not activate upon power up. I have to power the system up, open the laptop to determine when Windows has started and then move the dock latch 2-3 times before the dock video is enabled. (all other dock ports work just fine from power up, only video does not) For the last 10 years I have used 2 different HP laptop/dock packages and neither of those had such a problem. Because of this issue, I cannot recommend the ultra dock to other users. I am VERY dissapointd as I had always thought highly of Lenovo products

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra Docking Station Fails Output to Monitors Drivers for the docking station would not properly load in Windows 10. While output and connection for ethernet, sound, etc. worked. The docking station would not send output to connected display monitors. Appears to be a known problem, and even after spending hours attempting workarounds suggested in online forums on Lenovo's own website. Could not get the single connected HDMI display monitor to work. Could not get drivers to properly load - because of driver issue could not update firmware. This should work out of the box without tech support needing to spend so much time getting the configuration to support output to connected display monitors. Additionally, even when docked and locked, the laptop appeared to intermittently drop the ethernet connection. The entire reason it was purchased was to assure a stable connection while making desktop resources available so user could easily dock and undock for portability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-end docking station for ThinkPad P53s, A485, T495 and others I prefer having the traditional docking station compared to using the thunderbolt dock which uses a USB-c type connector. It maintains the classic ThinkPad style. I use this with a Ryzen based ThinkPad A485 and can drive 3x 1440p external displays + laptop display. I also use this with a ThinkPad P53s and can drive 2 external displays + laptop screen or 3 external displays without the laptop screen. Lots of USB ports and modern display connectors 2x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI and 1x legacy VGA (D-Sub). If you have an issue with displays going blank on P53s or other intel based ThinkPads you will need to install Lenovo Vantage to have it update the firmware used with the docking station.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Endless Firmware Troubles Our company has been purchasing these style docks for the past 5 years or so and have never had issues with them from the Lenovo T430 through the T470. These new thunderbolt docks however have been nothing but trouble. A large quantity of the ones we've deployed have display output issues, and USB detection problems, all software/driver based out of the box. It took a while, but Lenovo finally started pushing firmware updates out to rectify these issues. However their Windows 10 app is so bad it will sometimes fail to ever find updates, and when it does, they will sometimes fail to install. Even after all updates are completed a few users still experience problems. When these docks work they're fine, but our experience so far has been nothing but frustration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-have for Multi-Monitors marred by misbehaving firmware The Lenovo ThinkPad docking station is an essential tool for those of us using multiple monitors. Can't live without it. However, the shipped-with firmware performed erratically when waking up the laptop. Sometimes it recognized my two external monitors, sometimes it didn't. This is a known problem for at least six months. Took a firmware upgrade to fix it. Given the market both the Lenovo ThinkPad and the docking station is aimed for, this is surprising. Couldn't the upgraded firmware come pre-installed at this point? I also found the two-step process for engaging and disengaging the laptop to the station awkward compared with the "push button" process in prior models. Despite this, I gladly live with it to gain my screen real estate.

We have several that will seem to be docked but then disconnect from the network or video displays when bumped. Poor design compared to previous model.

But every time I went somewhere with the laptop I had to unplug my power cable and rerun the cable through the desk. This solves everything and makes it so easy to grab my laptop and go ... and then dock it and be up and running within seconds of returning. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Ultra Dock I purchased this dock out of necessity when I ordered a new P14s. My previous dock was not compatible with the new laptop. Overall, the dock works well and does what it should. The updated tech is an advantage (USB-C, high speed USB, etc). Using multiple monitors is easy with multiple digital display outputs. I just wish I didn't need to buy a new dock every time I buy a new computer.

I didn't get to see how this docking station works because the salesperson sold me this docking station (under their recommendation) and it is not compatible with my Lenovo laptop, which they also sold me at the same time! Lenovo needs to better train their sales people!

I have two external monitors, a scanner, a keyboard, a wireless mouse all hooked up and working perfectly. My one complaint is that my two monitors are touch screen and I only have enough USB connections to make one touch screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only good when it works Honestly, I would give it a 1 star but I will give it a 2 star as when it works, it works great. I have done everything from firmware updates on the dock to updates on our Lenovo laptops and even the monitor. With that said, some units still break and require an RMA. Definitely was far better when IBM owned the thinkpad line. Be aware that there are also update to Intel Management softwares that also could break it and Lenovo has no path or solution. Also, there is only 1 HDMI port and 2 Display port which makes no sense to me as I had issues with Display port and display port connection and had to use HDMI and display port of it to work. USB-C also only works with HDMI but cant use USB-c for 2 monitors.

I am using an x390 if you are wondering. it says that the monitor is connected but not active, even though it is on.

It seems Lenovo is the only one that gets it. Other laptop manufacturers think saving a dime to stay competitive is good business when this is clearly not always the case. People rather pay extra for something that is obviously more convenient and less messy to deal with. We would all still be farmers, if this was untrue. I prefer a nice restaurant or visiting a grocery store over running a farm for my food ... well I guess that's just me. Anyways, nice job Lenovo... I bought 2 docks to go along with my new laptop. One for my office and one for my home. I dumped my older Surface and my bulky desktop at work and couldn't be happier. I should have done this a while back instead of buying the Surface and desktop in the first place. Finally and most gratifying, this Lenovo setup is actually less expensive than buying a new non-docking laptop and a new descent desktop PC. It's a win, win, win... thank you Lenovo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient I bought this amazing dock station about one month ago. It really suits my Lenovo Carbon X1 laptop and I am enjoying using it. But, there is an issue that is bothering me from the purchase date! I have problem with its connection to external monitors. I have connected it to an ultra wide monitor from Dell and the screen blinks randomly. Someday there is no blink and sometimes it blinks for multiple times in an hour. I have tried various HDMI and DP cables but no improvement and after all I believe a firmware update for this dock should be released regarding this issue.

One thing I'd LOVE to see is the opposite of the quickpic for Laptops and that is to be able to choose the physical dock I like and see what Laptops are compatible. Please, please create that as well!

But the connection through the USB--C on the docking station doesn't work. It pops up a message saying "USB or Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited". Without the docking station, the USB-C on the laptop works.

USB 3.1 is a great bus to use for connecting the dock to the laptop but its implementation leaves you having to readjust often. I've had to toss three away so far since the locks will disengage from their holster when you remove the key too quickly. Seems like there should have been more QA on these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product from a fair company I recently just bought the X1 Carbon 6th Gen Think-pad, I was told over the phone that my existing docking station that I had for my T470 would work, I was trilled and then mislead. It doesn't even come close to fitting. So I went to the Lenovo website to find one that does work with the X1, as I'm a person who works in the office and at home equally, and the docking station makes it so much easier to connect, as I have dual monitors, printer, external mouse and ethernet hard wired. ONCE I received this docking station it works GREAT. The problem was that I was told by email(s that my item was in stack and would ship in 3 days! after 4 emails over 4 weeks of tracking my shipment it finally shipped five weeks after ordering with numerous excuses. Fabulous product, poor ordering process.

It is supposed to support 3 external monitors on various combinations of HDMI, DisplayPort and I could not get even two to work properly (an LG monitor wide screen on HDMI, resolution 2560x1080 and my living room TV LG "full HD" at 1920x1080). I got the LG monitor and the TV both working at the same time, but neither was running at its full resolution, and when my ThinkPad fell asleep, both displays plus the ThinkPad monitor went blank - and I woke it, only the ThinkPad monitor was working. The computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Generation

The Ultra Dock is working fine. I use the basic at work where I don't have an external monitor. Very pleased and have been using a docking station for years as I use the laptop as my home computer.

Works great with my P52s, docking and undocking is a breeze, and I'm overall very satisfied with how easy it was to set up with my new monitors and other peripherals.

I found it to be so useful for my home office that I bought a second one to take to the office I occupy at the startup company for which I'm currently consulting. Easy to use...just lay the laptop on the dock, slide the connector slide and power up. At home I have it connected to a single monitor, plus the laptop display. At the office I connect with 2 external monitors plus the laptop, as well as a few external drives and a few other peripherals. Plenty of power to make it all happen!

Because the Lenovo Thinkpad T480s has a unique power design, it was the best way I have found for dual screens. Additionally, the T480s is limited to just two USB ports, which is greatly expanded by the docking station. An excellent product that I am well satisfied with and would purchase again.

This one is by far the worst, and, unfortunately, it is my only option for my laptop. The biggest problem is that it is much more difficult to dock, often takes several tries, and does not feel secure once docked. Compared with my previous docking stations, this one is flimsy and much less stable.

I spoke with Lenovo support and it was not even supported for this model! You must go to http://accsmartfind.lenovo.com/ and search "20LD" to see what docking stations you can get. Also, I am not sure if this is by design, but the whole lock came out of docking station, key attached.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to my X1 Carbon I purchased the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station for use with a sixth Gen ThinkPad X1 carbon. I work from home and this was an excellent addition. The docking station has a thin profile and is extremely easy to attach and remove. I have attached a Lenovo P27-H10 monitor using the display port along with an external wired ThinkPad USB keyboard and Bluetooth mouse, USB 1TB Hard Drive, slim DVD drive, external speakers and numerical key pad. I originally thought I could connect the monitor direct to the USB-C port from the docking station. This procedure did not work and that is why I went to the Display port connection. I still connected the USB-C port on the docking unit to the P27-H10 monitor. This allowed me to use the USB ports on the monitor when the X1 Carbon was attached to the docking station. I am very pleased with the ease of use and the setup with the Lenovo P27-H10 monitor was outstanding. There have been a few other posts that indicate that it is difficult to attach the laptop to the docking station. I have not experienced this as a problem and I find that the system is very easy to attach and use. the USB-C RJ-45 connector has not ben available from Lenovo for the last two plus months and this was the only way I could connect to a wired internet connection. I am very pleased with this purchase. I didn't think I needed a docking station but now that I have it I am glad I made the purchase.

It almost feels like you're going to break it. I have two of these docks, one for the office, and one for home. Both of them are difficult to seat properly.

I use two monitors, so I had to purchase two adapters from DisplayLink to HDMI, but the system now works great. I like being able to turn on the computer without opening the lid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Side dock is extremely difficult Feature-wise, I'm still determining if I like it or not. I have two 30" monitors attached (HDMI and DisplayPort). Resolution and responsiveness both look pretty good. I have the USB ports all filled (mouse, keyboard, video camera). All of that is working well so far. Where I have an issue is the horrible side dock. Before turning anything on, tried docking and undocking multiple times. The computer has to be in the dock in a very specific way or the side dock doesn't engage. It will only come out part way. You know the computer isn't in the right position because the side dock slides easily when the laptop is positioned correctly. However, I tried about 3 dozen times to dock/undock. In 3 dozen tries, I literally only positioned it correctly maybe 3 times. the point of a dock is to be able to get up and go and return. If it takes me minutes and lots of frustration, I'm likely to not want to dock. At this point, I would not recommend the dock. After using it a while, if it appears it is me not understanding how to correctly position the dock, I'll review my review.

From the beginning the USB-c ports have not work, then the USB mini ports started to stop operating so I am back to plugging in my external hard drive into the side of my laptop and need to swap cables around for my camera to work simultaneously. Not the experience I was hoping for.

Customer service suggested I load the correct drivers and software or maybe try sales. Not helpful. The issue is that the docking station requires the lapto to have a third connector (docking connector). The T15 Gen 2 does not have this third docking connector (photo attached). The product literature that came with the T15 Gen clearly shows only USB C and Thuderbolt connectors (no docking connector). Photo attached

I have had Lenovo come to my office and look at it, sent the unit back for replacement, then plugged in a new one with the same result. It seems like it randomly connects to the monitor about 20% of the time. Everytime I call Lenovo about this they act like they have never heard of this issue happening

Time for a redesign Lenovo. Replacement hasn't arrived yet like it was supposed to. So we'll see how that goes, and hope the next one works. It is easy to hook up the laptop. I don't see how people have so much trouble with that.

I have not had a change to use this docking station*, but I am looking forward to converting it from a pricy paperweight to a functional tool! It is fantastic as a paperweight, and I hope the joy I find in its current role carries over to when I get to use it as intended. It certainly looks impressive, albeit lonely. *Supply chain woes have been awful on many levels for many companies and their products, but I am honestly looking forward to using this docking station. I have never had problems with the features (the USB and video ports in the back); it's nice to have mouse, monitor, keyboard, and power supply all set for your laptop when at home. I have two big complaints about quality: 1. The docking latch: the laptop does not sit resolutely in the tray, so there's perhaps a 0.5-degree variability in the angle of the laptop when you are ready to slide the latch to connect the dock. There's often some wiggling necessary to be sure the connectors are properly connected. 2. Cable connector quality: I've now had two different issues with connectors in the back of the docking station. About a year in, I noticed that my second monitor started having "ghost" images. At first I thought it was the cable, but I changed the cable and the same issue occurs once in a while. Re-seating the cable in the back of the dock a few times seems to eliminate any corrosion that is interfering with a good connection. The second issue began about a month ago. The laptop was no longer charging when the dock was connected. At first I thought it was related to the latch, but I've identified the issue as the power supply connection at the back of the dock. Again, by removing and re-seating the power cord several times, it works properly. It could be a problem with a low quality anodized coating on the dock's connectors.

I wish it had one more HDMI port for dual monitors instead of having to use a DVI port instead. I'm also wary of the slider that connects the docking station to the laptop. I'm being very careful with it because I'm afraid when I disconnect the laptop from it that it might break if I pull on it too hard. So as long as I am careful when disconnecting the laptop from the docking station, I feel this is a very good solution to connect all my peripherals.

Unfortunately both have similar issues where one of the three monitors will randomly go dark at an interval for 5 - 15 seconds. No idea why, and did not have this issue with any previous iterations of laptops /docking stations.

Mechanically getting the laptop in exactly the right spot to connect can be a pain. The hardware is also old in that it struggles to support two 4k displays.

I bought this worthless Docking station a few months ago after it was recommended to me by an online chat specialist to go with my new T14. Finally getting around to setting it up with my new 24 inch monitors. It turns out this docking station only supports one VDMI display. Only other option is VGA Port. Who makes a docking station for 1 VDMI Monitor these days. You will need to buy a different docking station. Frustrating part is that this is not very clear thru the buying experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent dock, last of a breed. Mechanical locking dock is more reliable and stable then docks that use a USB-C cable. Plus locking and securing the laptop is much easier for employees in comparison to use a Kensington style lock. You still need the Kensington style lock to secure the dock in it's location, but then docking and undocking is as simple as pushing a button. Even if you have no reason to secure your laptop, it's still worth it from the standpoint of not taking up extra desk space and the connection is much more stable and the connection points will last longer. The only downside to the dock is it will only work with Lenovo laptops and not all of them at that. So make sure your Lenovo model supports it before purchasing. I believe Lenovo is only one that still makes a locking dock like this and I hope they continue to make these.

We ordered 6 of these with 6 new computers (T14) and so far two of the docks are causing screen flicker. Now I have to deal with warranty service and this poor dock. So upset. We have multiple form factors that we have to support and this dock is perfect for that option. One of the issues we've had from other docks is that they won't support two 4k monitors at 60Hz, this dock will. Great choice for a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Different power plug inserts into ThinkPad and Doc I initially paniced with it first arrived, as I noted the power plug into dock was different that the power plug into the Thinkpad from the Thinkpad cord. In the past the power plug inserts were the same and could be interchanged. However, it works fine. The power plug opening in the dock is just a different size that the power plug insert into the ThinkPad. Just no interchangeability. Works great, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

I have come to the conclusion that any docking station like this one is not ideal for the T15 at least. It is compatible but it will cause your laptop to over heat. Looking at temps while plugged in it was hitting 80+ degrees (Celsius) just sitting idle or
