Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would not Recommend I would not recombined this lap top case at all. The only thing good it has going for it is that it is an attractive looking case, however, even that quality does not last very long. I have had two cases break and on me in the past 2 months... how does that even make sense? I use the laptop for schoolwork and take very good care of it, there is no reason why the case should be breaking like this just from normal usage around the house and in the classroom. The first case both of the side snap things that hold the bottom of the case ontop the laptop itself broke off rendering the case completely useless at that point. the second case i purchased the top of the case already looks like it is cracking a bit in areas and the little plastic cushion thing on the corner has fallen off on the bottom - this has all happened within 3 weeks of first purchasing and using the case. Although this case looks stylish, it is not durable, you will end up paying more money buying replacements for broken cases so I recommend just investing your money in something a little more sturdy in the first place

They're very nice, but it seems like the clips that hold the bottom shell on need to be a hair bigger, because one or two is always popping off, which drives me crazy! The constant battle of clipping and unclipping of the little clasps to put it on how it is supposed to be, wears the clasps out fast and they break completely!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Speck cover for the same MacBook Pro! It's nice to have a relatively expendable, extra layer on the outside of the computer. It doesn't add significantly to weight or thickness, but it does allow me to be a bit more casual in how I handle the laptop, which wasn't particularly cheap in the first place. I'm glad to have a speck cover on my MacBook Pro. The first one lasted 3 1/2 years, but eventually a couple of corners broke away so the bottom cover started slipping off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible Quality I ordered this case and after about a week there were crack marks beginning to form in the corner of the top part of the case. I just recently bought a new macbook and have only been using it inside my room or on my bed so I don't understand how there are random crack marks already. I feel that for the price, the quality of the case isn't even close to par. Also, I find that it is hard to remove the top part of the case since the top of the macbook pro retina display is incredibly thin, which makes the case even more prone to break when it needs to be taken off for whatever reason. All that I will give for this case is its vibrant and beautiful color; nonetheless, I wouldn't recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit This case for the MBP 13"" is perfect. Before they came out with this case I bought a skin from carbons.com because I wanted protection right away. I did not have to take the skin off and the case fit perfectly over the skin. The ports are all accessible and precision cut. It's the best case to protect your MBP for getting scratched and its extremely thin and makes your MBP look sexy with the glossy finish.

It's easier to just buy a new one then to try and go through the RMA process with Speck. Will try to just return the broken ones with a note.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Def Case This See Thru Case was a bit pricy but there is nothing else that compares in price or quality. There is a suggestion that the case be removed monthly since static tends to build up dust and grime between the macbook and the see thru case> Your working environment or the place or bag in which you carry your macbook will dictate how often you should remove and clean your case. Removing the case is a bit of a chore and will affect the integrity of your case over time. Nothing lasts forever. The apple store where I purchased the case was out of the blue case so I had to get the clear colourless one. It does however show your Macbook pro almost in its natural form.

In my case, the back corner of the lower half broke without dropping or other abuse! It pretty much went from my laptop bag to my desk; that's it! Also there's no 'lip' on the sides where the ports are, so the center of the bottom half will move up/down and possibly catch on objects like sleeves. The edge of the case is uneven on the bottom half. The top fits and operates perfectly. The bottom half was poorly engineered. This was the only option at the time of my purchase... overpriced for a simple plastic case and I'm awaiting Speck's response on my issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive but Flimsy This case, although aesthetically quite nice, will not last more than a month or two. I've been through three of these cases and all crack along the sides within 6-8 weeks. I treat my laptop with great care so there is no reason for this to be happening. Don't get me wrong, the case itself is beautiful and if it didn't break so easily I would recommend it highly. The problem is that for 50 bucks I don't want to have to replace it six times a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broke in 1 Month At first I loved this case, purchased in October 2012 when there were few hardshell cases available. It fit perfectly but the back corner tabs are very small and thin. I transport my Mac in a padded compartment in by bag and take very good care of it. The first corner tab broke 3 weeks in and the second broke after 1 month thus rendering the case useless since the bottom no longer stayed on. Other designs do not offer such a small weak rear tab to hold the bottom of the case onto the computer. Do not buy this case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good feel, way overpriced. This case protected my MacBook Pro Retina for weeks. I was able to get a discount at the time for 25% off. Not much of a help, but every little bit helps. It is ridiculously overpriced, not sure why. Anyways, I finally decided to take it off as a monthly cleaning job, and the tabs on the bottom piece broke off. I questioned the design as to why the tabs didn't cover the back corners of the macbook. They are too flimsy, and I knew that they were going to be a problem which is why they broke off the way they did. Speck needs to seriously redesign this product so that when I remove the case, not one part should break off. The satin feels good, but along the edges, it peels very easily. Overall, I'm not too impressed with this item. Wish they made it more like the original SeeThru for the MacBook Pro. THE CORNERS MUST BE PROTECTED MORE. Otherwise, you can't possibly have this case on for a long period of use. It breaks just way too easily. Overall, 3/5.

I purchased without hesitation because of the quality and durability of old speck case for my macbook pro. This case broke within the first month . There are 2 small plastic tabs on back to hold the bottom of the case on (not a full back panal as it used to be) and those pieces broke within the first month. I'm careful and even use a laptop case to transport, so I'm unsure how to proceed with a new case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snazzy case In the past, I've always gone with a different Speck case for my Macbooks. Silly me, I ordered the SeeThru by accident, when I prefer something a little more opaque and softer to the touch. That's my mistake. My first impressions were that hair and dust is attracted to the case because of how it's made. Think of a balloon - with a little bit of static cling, this case picked up loose hairs on my pillow only minutes after putting it onto the laptop. HOWEVER... I decided, for fifty dollars, I was just going to suck it up and rock the case. I took it out with me to run errands. I had some work to do while getting my oil changed, followed by lunch, etc. Well! Let me just tell YOU... My old cases NEVER garnished this much attention. With my old cases, people noticed the computer. With this case, people noticed the case AND the computer. Instead of simply protecting, this See-Thru case actually ENHANCES the aesthetic design of the MacBook Pro Retina model. Now, I've taken this computer in public plenty of times. But suddenly, it's glossy, it's shiny, it's a bold statement of ""sleek"" and ""Slender"" and the black color I chose looks perfect with the screen bezel when the computer is open. In the end, I decided that wiping my palm or a napkin over the case every once in a while isn't that much of a deal. Sure, the smooth surface is more prone to fingerprints over time (it seems, straight out of the box, there's some sort of protective coating where fingerprints don't stand out as badly as I thought they might, but I also keep my hands clean, heh. I'm sure my thirteen year old son will find a way to make his prints stick before too long) BUT... that is a very small chore considering all the attention you're likely to glean from sporting such a chic, sexy case. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle. :)

I ordered it in purple... with in a matter of day from just carrying it in my bag it got scratched up pretty bad. It hasn't broken like other posters have shared...its just really scratched..bad.

Silly me got my MBP 13in. Retina 2 days after its release. Been paranoid bout damaging it ever since. How u gonna release the Hardware without its protection. Thats like goin bare back on New Years Eve!! Lol!!!! Great design and fit!!

The only problem I have with the case is it scratches easily. Within seconds of me putting it on, I saw tiny scratches on the top. Overall, I'm happy with it. I rather see scratches on my case rather than on my Mac! A bit pricey too.

The vents on the bottom work well with the retina macbook pro, but the bottom back corners are a bit flimsy. After a month of use, the left bottom back corner broke off. I'm a student and I use my computer regularly in class, but I don't throw it around or anything. The warranty doesn't cover broken parts so now I'm out fifty. Wait for a better case to come out because there is no way this case can last longer than a year for a regular user.

Although it fits perfectly, and it's truly one of the best looking cases for your macbook pro retina, it will break within 2 months. I've paid 50 dollars for something that really isn't designed to last at all. As with the previous reviewer, and most macbook users I treat my macbook with care. So there is no reason for it to break... But it does. It's purely poor design. You are warned.

I been using my SmartShell case for a couple weeks now and so far I been happy with it. Sure the price could be lower, but I paid over $2000 for my 13 retina with warranty, etc. I wish these cases were available at launch but the quality, fit and slimmer size was well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Ordered the SeeThru Satin for my rMBP and it came in today... Followed the directions for install and everything seemed pretty straight forward. Tight fit, so far no creaking at points... The case itself seems very well made, as are all of Speck Products. I have been using a Candy Shell on my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 for years now and they are amazing... A little pricey but hell, I paid $3,000 for the computer, whats another $50 to protect it? Would purchase again, and recommend to friends!

You can still use the case if you're carefully in not letting the macbook slide off the case... So I change it every 4-5 months. I'm now sick and tired of this and just saw that incase makes one too just like this. Will try that now....

I'm on the second one of these and like many of the other reviews here, my cases have broken with very little use/movement of the laptop. The tabs at the rear on the bottom half of the case have broken...(these wrap up at the rear corner and ""clip"" or ""snap"" over the top of the lower aluminum body.) This portion of the Speck case is less then a cm wide and sustains significant force when the laptop is moved, even in and out of a bag....and breaks easily. From this point the case is unsecured on the laptop and it gets worse from there. I had additonal issues with the upper case cracking but the main issue is described above. This second case is only a few weeks old and my first lasted a few months. I love Speck as a company. Their customer service, while unwilling to admit this is a problem has quickly replaced the cases and this will keep me as a longtime customer. I love all my other Speck products. They NEED TO REENGINEER THE CORNER CLIPS ON THIS MODEL AND CONSTRUCT THE ENTIRE CASE OUT OF A RUBBERIZED/PLASTICIZED or thicker MATERIAL. Thanks Speck for standing behind your product!!!

It quickly cracked on all the corners and eventually the back corners snapped off, making it slide off while scratching the bottom of my computer in the process. My computer rarely leaves the home and did not endure any extreme activity. My past three shells from Speck were fabulous and lasted much longer than a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Purchase! I love this case and I'm so glad I got it for my 15"" macbook pro. It is easy to use, slim design, light weight and protects my computer. I would say it is a little over price for what it is, but it does it's job very well and I am more than satisfied with the quality. It does not feel like cheap plastic and it makes my machine even more stylish. I went with bright pink, of course, and it definitely is true to color. I love that you can still see the apple logo and light when it is on. It fits well and is easy to take on and off. Look forward to seeing how well is stands up to the test of time since it just came in the mail today. Speaking of mail, delivery was faster than expected. Thanks!

I just needed a replacement for the bottom because I dropped my MacBook and it cracked (MacBook completely unharmed).

Back bottom corners have broken so the bottom case doesn't stay on. top left corner has a piece missing. My laptop doesn't go very many places so its very disappointing that this can't even handle a in home life style. Would not recommend and will never purchase one again. :(

I don't use my macbook very often but it usually stays on my couch and a few times I have traveled with it I had a padded bag I carry it in so I don't understand why it has cracked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great case This case does EXACTLY what I want it to do. Stays on the Mac and takes the scuffs so the computer doesn't. Easy to put on and take off, although you should just leave it on. Doesn't interfere with the look of the computer, at least not much: it still looks snazzy and you look smart because you're protecting your device. I've had no problems with the case breaking or losing feet, which others complain about (YMMV). The case does scratch a little easily. I once had it riding alongside some printer paper and it picked up quite a few scuffs. I now carry the computer in a pretty sturdy briefcase with a fitted sleeve (Tom Bihn if you must know); the fit in the sleeve is a little tight but it works.

Especially noticeable on tabs that affix the case to the base of he laptop near the screen, as they are the only attachment points on this side of the machine. I've had the case for two months and the first one broke off quickly and now the second has also let go. I am not hard on my equipment so this is very disappointing for a $50 case. If the bottom case attached to the laptop where the screen has the hinge, this brittle tab issue would be remedied, thus the case wouldn't be useless after such minimal abrasion. However, the material is still not very durable, futher validating the the low ratings I've given on prive, value, and quality.

I have only had the case for 15 days and I am on my second case due to the first one being broken during shipping, now the second case has multiple cracks! As a very careful person who keeps his MacBook inside of another case and then puts it in his briefcase this is a crazy crazy thing I would not recommend this product to anyone unless you like to see your money thrown in the garbage. And if that is the case you can just send me your money instead.

It is a little difficult to snap on - you need to really push it on there, which made me nervous it was scratching my laptop as previous reviews stated. I have not noticed anything yet. Color is nice and it will be good for light protection. Wouldn't expect this to hold up to a drop or anything like that though. Also, it's pretty impossible to get off so make sure you really like it before you snap it on there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good! I have used Moshi and other brands of cases for the macbook pro retina, but this one is the best. This case has the best fit for the computer. Many others including Moshi do not fit the bottom part of the computer, which leads to it feeling insecure and little bits of dust and dirt get trapped in between the case and computer. And in many other ones, the top lid is extremely hard to remove, but not Speck. My speck case lasted 8 months on the laptop and is still going strong. I just got a different speck one in another color because I was so impressed.

The delivery was disgraceful and a complete rip off, I had to pay extra costs for it to come in the UK as well as delivery. Awful Speck. Improve please.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not buy this product I would not buy this product again I've had it for just a few months and I have never once dropped my MacBook and this case is cracking everywhere, my friend bought one and a few days after it cracked in half, so she bought another and the day after there is a crack down the middle, these cases shouldn't be breaking like this especially if you take very good care of your laptop.

I really liked the satin feel and color. However, I've been using this for a year. The quality is not as bad as a previous glossy one I had - it was flimsy and cracked really easily. What is really annoying about this case is the two attachments on the side where it clips onto my laptop. It ALWAYS hooks onto my sweaters and ruining them.

I am on my third replacement I now have cracks in the corners. 1 year is now done. I liked the case, it doesn't stand up to normal use without starting to crack.

Got this to protect my MacBook Pro, I'm retired, this MBP goes from my desk to the dining room ""maybe"" once a week, otherwise it simply sits on the desk. Within 60 days it was cracked and now 4-5 months in one of the tabs on the base is cracked off. Hopefully the materials are being improved upon.

I've been a speck case user for years but the bright yellow case was garbage. In fact am sending it back under warranty to replace!

Now, 16 months after purchase, the corners of the top cover are falling off. Of course the warranty only covers 1 year!!!! The normal use has been on the kitchen table with light usage. I will not purchase another Speck product, nor would I recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would not recommend Given the price and the brand, I really expected a quality Macbook book case. The case is prone to scratches. I hope the new ""scratch free"" cases do a better job on it. Only after two months the bottom case began to crack. I had to put tape on it so the crack wouldn't expand. After three months the corners started to chip. Luckily, the case comes with a warranty. My new case is on its way. The only good thing about the case is the presentation. It fits well, it is thin and vented, and they have great colors. However, an ""attractive case"" that will crack will not protect your expensive laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bottom Plate tabs break This case has lasted me quite some time, I actually pre-ordered it as soon as they released the design when the Retina MBP came out, but for some reason the back tabs on the bottom case have worn out. Which is mind-boggling because I never take the MBP out of the case. I don't know if it is a heat issue or design issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS STARTED CRACKING AFTER 6 MONTHS I used this case for college. I kept it on my laptop consistently, and rarely took it off. I keep it in my well padded backpack, and used it on a desk or in my lap. I'd sometimes lay it up on its corner against my bed. I appreciate the design, and slim and slick fit it has to the laptop. The matte feels nice and helps hide scratches. But the case does collect some small visible particles in the bottom half of the case and needs to be cleaned occasionally. But I started getting cracks in the case in-between the ventilation holes. And finally after 6 months it cracked and is loose. Brand new, this is already overpriced. If you really like the look go for it. Just don't count on it lasting. This will probably last you about a year.

It's poorly made, and breaks easily due to poor plastic. I am very unhappy with my purchase and I will not be buying and spending my money on Speck products again.

Now the bottom piece slides around and doesn't fit. It's a huge bummer since this case wasn't cheap and I really expected better quality from such a well-regarded brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaks Easily I got this case as a gift just about 3 months ago. The first one I received already had a piece broken off of it before I had even taken it out of the package. I went to the store that it had been purchased at the next day and exchanged it for a different one. Unfortunately, this one didn't even hold up when I was trying to put it on. Without much force or anything of the sort, and simply snapping the case onto the top of my laptop, the corners of the top piece cracked and essentially shattered (and yes the case was purchased for the correct model of my Mac). Entire pieces have now broken off of the case entirely, and I've simply succumb to the fact that I have to take it off and no longer use it. The cases seem to provide somewhat adequate protection if you're not doing much with your laptop and if the case refrains from breaking while applying it, however it's not very reliable overall. They do come in great colors, if only they were sturdier!

The plastic is so cheap and not durable at ALL. It's actually sharp and scraping me at the wrist where it's broken. I use my laptop everyday, multiple times a day so it is going through a lot as I'm taking it in and out of my backpack. The reason it gets two stars because it did protect my laptop from scratches and the color was pretty, it just couldn't keep up and didn't last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BROKEN CORNERS Had this case for about 2 months and noticed the back corners starting to crack. One side has finally cracked all the way and the other will likely break soon. I treat my laptop very well and never bang it around or drop it. Obviously this is a design issue or the wrong plastic being used, since it is too brittle to hold up to light use. I really like the fit and how most of the laptop is covered except the back corners. I have compared this cover to their old designs and noticed that the old design has some thin layer of extra plastic at the back hinge which likely supports the corners and keeps them from cracking. I know this is not possible with the tighter tolerance of the retina but feel they could of left a little more plastic by the ports or made the corners thicker. They did design this case thinner and that is another reason that could allow this case to crack so easily. Things like this should of been found by simple product testing, this is not at the same level of their other products. I would rather have a slightly thicker case that will last than a thin case that will have to be replaced multiple times a year.

Bought one when I first bought my MacBook Pro in 2015 and five years later, after I have cracked it, I'm so glad I was able to order a replacement. Has made my day during these disappointing and heartfelt times of being quarantined during this Virus that I am not allowed to name in this comment section. Thanks Speck for the products!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheaply made for the price They changed the plastic on the more recent cases. I had a speck case I was very happy with years ago when I had my intel Macbook pro 17in. It worked the whole life of the computer without a crack. I bought a speck case when I got my new computer and all the corners are chipped and cracked. THIS PLASTIC IS CHEAP. They expect us to pay loads of money for a thin cheap plastic case. Then when I write to complain SPECK doesn't even stand behind their product. Horrible company..... I will be going with a different brand next time and will leave bad reviews for this product till the day I die.

This case doesn't have the most glaring reviews, so I was worried about ordering it, but now that I have received it, I can assure you it lives up to the same great standards of other Speck cases I've owned. I have the late 2013 Haswell 13 inch Macbook Pro and it fits like a glove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HUGE Design Flaw I got my first one last October. Per prior review, the rear tabs, that are quite narrow, easily broke within a few weeks. I got around to sending it in for replacement in January and promptly got a replacement. However, the left rear tab broke when I tried to snap it in EXTREMELY carefully this time. Once one of them goes, the other one breaks soon enough due to weight imbalance. Then if not lifted properly, the mac book itself slides off the case which is quite dangerous. I am not sure what Speck designers were thinking with this one. Zoom in on the rear corner clips for the Retina macbook case vs the regular macbook case. The difference and the design flaw will be apparent even to a lay person. Now, Speck has release neon colors with the same design. This is how great companies loose grip with their customers.

Love the color, fits well, really adds some grip to my brand new device so i don't constantly think its going to slip out of my hands. However, it scuffs really easily. I've been carrying my laptop in my backpack with a couple folders and parts of the case are scuffed already. So far, seems like it will be crack resistant, but provide little protection against a major fall. If you're careful with it and want to add some nice color, I would recommend this!

The bottom and top are made of cheap plastic which breaks very easily. The bottom piece is almost worthless after this short time. I know it is to protect your Mac but at 50 bucks it should las longer than 6 months.

The Speck shells are high quality and cheap protection for an expensive device. I dropped my MBP recently and cracked the case but the MBP is undamaged. After having the shell for 2 years it's time to try a different color.

Two of the corners of the bottom of the case completely snapped off on their own with bumping/dropping/snagging the case etc. Now the bottom case slides on and off on its own accord because half the case has nothing to snap it on with. The back of the case has acquired MANY cracks that were not a result of hitting the case. I have had the case less than two months and it is a truly awful product and was not worth my money. The quality is horrendous and I do not believe for one second that this case would ever protect my laptop if I were to drop it. This is a waste of money and you should not buy this case.

I got the case for Christmas and before the end of January, both of the back corners on the bottom case have broken off, making my computer slide out of the case, and making the case basically useless. I'm going to try to get a new one covered by the warranty, but am unsure if it will make a difference, if the corners are just going to break off again within a month.

I bought it with my new MacBook Pro Retina and it does keep the scratches and scuffs off of the computer it does not keep finger prints off of the thing and the scratches that do get on the case are white when it gets scratched. It does fit very well as if it was made my Apple.

Contacted Speck, and was told to pack it up at my expense and wait for a replacement. Hmmmm......let me think. Take a poor quality case off, leave my computer unprotected, send it back at my expense and then wait to received a replacement. Clearly all these reviews should be sending a message to Speck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broken I also had issues with the two clasps on the back of the lower portion. The left side broke first and then right gave out within a few weeks after. I'm not sure if the SeeThru Satin is made of stronger material, but I would recommend trying it first. I've been used to Speck Cases being very high quality and was a little disappointed with this case. My buddy has the glossy SmartShell and that one works perfectly. I just wish this one did as well.

Those fixations are really to small on this model and not hard enough... I'd say the price would be good if one case can last more than a year. On a other hand, those cases are really nice and good looking, speck customer service is also awesome. I was satisfied with all speck cases until retina's ones :/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product :) I bought this for my new Macbook with Retina because I'll be doing work at camp this summer and just wanted to give my computer some extra protection. Picked the Clear version and love it, before I was afraid to handle the computer truthfully, but now I've got stickers and whatever else on the case without fear of the notebook. Scratches are old news provided you remove the case every once in awhile if you start to see dust and debris underneath, it's inevitable. Very pleased, gives me so much peace of mind.

Within 4 months of very light use (never dropped or taken out of the house), the case started to crack in various places and pieces began to fall off of the edges. The cases are covered under warranty, but I expect the replacements to have the same problems based on similar reviews on this website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice case but breaks easily I really love this case. It's thin, looks great, and has a nice grip to it. The only problem is the plastic clips break off too easily. I haven't even hit the case against anything, and it lives inside a padded zipper case while being transported. The case still stays on for now, but I know it's just a matter of time now until it doesn't :( Please fix the clips, because this case is really nice otherwise.

I have had two of them and the always either crack or outright chip on the corners....you would think they could add some material in those areas knowing full well that they will tend to take more abuse.

But the top shell piece was way too tight and cracked on each corner during the first use. Not taken it off since September 15 when I bought it, until today when one of the tiny cracks (from its application) split into the middle.

But, the top part of the case has had no issues and is staying on well. Overall too expensive for such a horribly built case.

The back corners usually break after 3-4 months. My current version broke yesterday, after I had it for less than 2 months. Speck customer service and the Apple store has been replacing them with no problem whatsoever, but I have to find an alternative protection for the laptop for a couple of weeks each time. I had hoped one of the replacement cases would finally have a more sturdy design, but that hasn't happen so far. It's pretty disappointing. I don't think I will go through the replacement process again.

Within two weeks of having the case the corners on the top lid were cracked, and I take very good care of my electronics. The only place I ever brought my computer was to class, and I put it in a protective sleeve along with the case being on my computer. It still managed to break somehow, disappointing for how much it costs.

It is definitely protective and keeps dirt and scratches off of my laptop, but it's also sleek and stylish at the same time. It's super easy to use, and I was able to snap it onto my Macbook without any problems. I like how sturdy the material is, and also how sharp. I purchased this case in the hot pink color and I was pleasantly surprised that it was even nicer looking in person! Everything about this case is great, I would definitely recommend it to any Macbook user looking for a good protective case for their laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Major design flaw on 15"" MB Pro Retina version Sending my second one back for warranty replacement. Same issue, terrible design of the tabs on the back. When you open the 15"" MB Pro Retina, it snags the tabs. Eventually, it WILL break them right off. There's not enough of them there to hold up. And when they both break, the case slides right off. You better hope you have a good hold on your laptop, mine very nearly fell out! Guess I'll have to find another cover once the warranty expires. Plus, they want me to send the old one back prior to replacing it, so I'm without a cover for a couple weeks. Unacceptable for a $50 dollar case!

The bottom piece has broken and chipped around the edges so much that I can completely slide my lap top out of the casing. I am very gentle with my laptop, it rarely leaves my desk. I had a speck case for my old mac book pro and it held up like a champ. I guess quality has really gone downhill since then.

I bought the case about a week before classes started and I'm now in my 5th week of classes and it has already cracked in several places and two pieces on the bottom have broken off. I am very unsatisfied with this product.

It has protected my computer so well for six years, when I took it to the Genius Bar (without the case), they couldn't believe how old it was. My MacBook Pro looked like new!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish MacBook Pro case worked as well as Speck iPhone case I had to return this case as it was defective. The bottom snapped on correctly but only 3 corners of the top piece would snap in place. I might have ordered the Presidio model but it was out of stock, so after two tries to get a good case for my MacBook pro from Speck, I decided not to reorder. Speck had shipped a MacBook pro case a week earlier which I had to return because it wasn't the correct size for my computer, even though I went through their website with the correct year and model # to determine the correct model case to order. Customer service was good as they send free shipping labels so the cases can be returned for any reason. I still Speck iPhone Presidio Grip cases though.

Also, the corners in the back broke off, so now the case slides off all the time. This was not worth the money at all and i'll be buying a case somewhere else.

Mine has cracked on both edges within 2 months. The entire case slips off. I will try again if they will replace bc it's so pretty and try to remember to OPEN ONLY AT the CENTER

However, about seven months after putting it on my computer, I began noticing cracks in the corners. I did receive a replacement in a timely manner.

I don't think a product this expensive should be cracking so easily. I put a sleeve on top of the case as well and it still has a ton of cracks in it and I'm afraid it won't protect my laptop that well. If i could have a replacement possibly that would be amazing because this did not work sufficient enough.

I could take it off very easily and when I went to pick it up by the sides it started to come off. I'm going back to the see thru.

The case snaps on easily, and offers a bit of extra protection from bumps and scratches without adding much weight or bulk. It would be nice if the case had port covers, but there are other products that offer more protection from drops, water, etc...

It was replaced under warranty, then again they broke. I put the case on and never once took it off. It should be much more durable.

This one looks to be of good quality however the actual color is very different than the color represented on the manufactures site. Suppose to be blue, looks more green in person. :-( Disappointing. Still protects the laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Its Job I've seen a lot of complaints about the quality of this case, how it scratches easily and wears down quite a bit, but no one seems to mention that while the case takes a beating, the computer does not. I'm a college student, so my Mac goes with me to class, to the library, to friend's rooms, and on cross country flights when I go back home, and underneath my Speck case it looks new. I'd rather have a case that I have to replace once in a while than a $2500 computer that's all banged up. I also have not had the major issues people have had with these cases, mine mostly sustain scratches, smudges, and minor cracks, but all my cases are in working order. I have three of them that I switch between when I want to change colors. Also, while the price seems hefty if you're weary about replacing the them, Speck offers some great sales once in a while and you can often find new cases on Amazon or Ebay for $20 or $30 cheaper. This case will protect your computer. That's what matters most to me.

Price rating because I do believe it is on the pricey side. Value was priced as it was because like I said it is doing what it is supposed to do and it doesn't add any weight.

When it arrived it wasn't the satin finish that I expected. Overall the case is great and a pretty color. Just don't be confused by the description like I was :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality was not what I expected from Speck I have purchased many Speck products for clients who buy lots of computers for employees. Some of them have lasted 3+ years with the shells installed, with no issues - some of them don't even have wear marks and have lasted so long they were transferred to newer models of MacBook Pros! However, with the purchase of my personal 15"" rMBP, I have found that the newest Speck products are not as well made as their predecessors. I had the clip near the power button crack off within two weeks of normal usage, and some scratches are starting to develop with normal use. I will try to get a warranty replacement, but I think that cost/quality has changed at Speck and the products are not as good as they once were.

I have a Speck satin finish case for my iPhone that I like, although after a couple years of taking it in and out of my pocket, the finish has come off on most of the case. The finish on this case seems to be the same, but I don't anticipate it getting as much abrasion as the iPhone does going in and out of pockets. Also, that iPhone case has cracked near the bottom due to me repeatedly taking it on and off to put an audio cable in that never fit right. So why am I talking about an iPhone case when this is a MacBook Pro retina case review? Well, my only guess so far is that the durability problems people are having is related to taking this case off all the time, since this usage led to the failure mode of my iPhone case. The case itself is very thin, and the clips on the back where the case mounts to the computer are thin, but everything seems to be strong enough for every day use so far. Time will tell of course. Aside from those concerns, the case itself is of very high quality, the finish is nice, and it fits the computer like a glove. The case doesn't interfere with typing or ports in any way. The color (steel blue) is more gray than blue it seems, except under certain lighting conditions, but it complements the computer very well. And the matte finish makes the lighted Apple cutout on the top cover look a little blurry around the edges, which looks cool. I was also worried that the case would interfere with the laptop's cooling efficacy, since I do a lot of heavy computational work and the fans are usually whirring, but the case hasn't seemed to affect this at all. If you're on the fence, I'd definitely give this case a try and see if it works for you. I'm pretty happy with it so far :)

The second day, I accidentally spilled coffee on the cover and was grateful that I installed it on my laptop the day before. I washed it off and the cover never looked the same - it always had a smeared and dirty look to it. The more I rewashed it the worse it looked. When I removed the cover, it cracked on the corner. Very disappointed. For the price I thought the quality would be much better.

I had been wanting a cover/case for my computer for quite some time and finally decided to purchase this brightly colored green one for my MacBook. It protects the outside of my computer from scratches and everyday wear, and in addition, it makes the computer easier to hang onto while taking it from one place to the next. I had originally thought I wanted a matte finish in the case, but when one was not available in the green color, I decided to give the glossy finish a try, and I really like the way it looks. I would definitely recommend this case to a friend.

Not sure why everyone has had so many problems with their shells cracking because I've had no problems with mine. I also travel a lot with work so I have to say it is quite durable. I LOVE it! I use it to protect my laptop from bumps and scrapes when it is in the special "laptop pocket" of my backpack. The case became extremely scratched very quickly, even though I have not dropped it, or placed items that would be abrasive on or near the case. Again, my laptop with the case on is either alone in the laptop pocket of my backpack, or on my desk or a table. The smudge resistance also is not satisfactory. If anything, smudges from fingers appear more prominently on the case. This case is much too sensitive to the two things it claims to protect against. I am not satisfied at all. The only thing I can speak well of is that it seems to be a sturdy case. I have not had the case crack or have the tabs that secure the case to the laptop come off the way they have with other brands I have purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Customer Service I recently purchased a Neon Smart Shell for my Macbook Retina and the back two clips broke off within a couple months. I called to complain but the customer service reps were extremely helpful and explained that they would refund my purchase as soon as I sent it back to them. In the mean time I purchased a new case and waited until it arrived to send my broken case back. I received the refund within 2 business days. This time I purchased the SeeThru Satin case and I'm much happier. I understand the cases don't always work the way the company wants but it's a product I will always purchase. The customer service and warranty guarantees are more important to me than the inconvenience of replacing the product. I will recommend Speck Products to anyone looking for a great case and customer service.

One case both corner and the other case one corner but in exactly the same fashion. My laptop does not travel with me, it remains in my bedside drawn when not in use or when in use on my lap in bed or my desk. It has never been dropped!

Since I upgraded to Retina, a year + later the shell has completely broken on the sides. But I know its just for the retina since I still have my original black macbook with a dark purple casing (Speck as well) and even after 6+ years it is still in perfect conditions (of course it has scratches, but it protects and it isn't broken). I now have to buy another Retina casing... not good. If this next one breaks again for regular use (I am really careful with my things, I like to keep them in good condition) I will have to look somewhere else.

However, the outside of the case scratches really easily and some parts on the sides of the laptop have cracked off. I am not rough with the laptop - I carry it inside of another soft sleeve when I take it to school with me, so it shouldn't be cracking so soon. Although the case is doing its job by keeping the computer covered, the price should be lowered if the quality isn't going to be improved.

One of the back tabs fell off almost immediately. Today, I accidentally dropped my computer 18 inches onto a carpet. One corner of the case cracked and the laptop corner underneath dented. This will void Apple's Warranty! If the case had cracked and still protected the computer, I'd be upset; but now I'm angry enough to write this review.

Cracked with in the first week I bought 2 of these-one for me and the other for my husband in Sept 2016-mine cracked with in a week (I am not hard on my stuff) and my husbands' is in pieces. I owned a previous model and had it for 2-3 years before the corners cracked. We are so disappointed-not worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed - bad quality, and losing a long time customer Backstory before it all went downhill: Previously, I owned a Macbook Pro and had a speck case on it. It was great. Protected the computer, but still let it breathe. Was durable, etc. At the time, I was a loyal Speck customer - even helped friends and family get their laptops and what not decked out in speck gear... So, when I got a new Macbook with retina display, I got this speck case for it. BUT, I am so disappointed. As someone who takes the utmost care with my electronics as I can to protect them, transport as delicately and little as possible, and maintain them, this case is GARBAGE compared to the old one. (It breathes much less than the last, but I feel that may be relevant to the retina display design. However, the rest of the bad quality is just... bad.) I put the case on the computer and have not adjusted it or taken it off since. My computer remains stationary quite often, but if it is ever transported, it is put in a sleeve and case, etc. It is installed properly and is the correct case and size for the computer. I have had this case for 6 months and the corners are cracking in multiple spots. In fact, I am just waiting for it to start falling apart. It's almost as though it doesn't fit the computer. Note: I live in a very temperate climate, so weather conditions cannot be a factor. Also, most of the cracks are on the top half of the case - yes it is a very thin part of the computer, but some better quality materials would easily fix this... How does a case that is breaking WITHOUT being bumped, hit, or damaged, supposed to help? Heck, it probably will start causing scratches on the computer casing instead of protecting it from scratches. I might try for the warranty since it is under one year, but at this point.... I don't even know if it's worth trying another case.... Extremely disappointed.

I really like the bright green colour on the mac and it keeps my computer safe from getting scratched, but I would like the clip on parts to be a bit stronger, as it is the third case I've had from Speck that's done this within the first few months.

I had to wait since I had one of the first Retina display computers so they weren't out yet(he made the recommendation without knowing anything about it, just on brand recognition alone). I think the case looks great but I've already broken the tabs on the case twice taking it in and out of my laptop bag. I'm talking about the ones near the charger port where the computer. Its rather frustrating that it keeps breaking there. I'd understand if I dropped my computer, or was hard on it but I'm not.

It's always in a safe place (padded pouch, in my bedroom on a table). I have found that this case breaks very easily. I've had 3 speck cases now, and each one cracks/breaks very easily. The corners break off the easiest. However, the case is sleek looking and I love the look. I'm just not a fan of how easily they break.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaks Easily I love the case but the back corners of the bottom half of the shell break ridiculously easily causing the bottom to slide off. Speck has replaced them without giving me a problem, but it is a hassle to pack it up, ship it and wait for the new one. The price is not bad but knowing that I have to go through this every 4-5 months really decreases the value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try again Speck... This is not my first Speck case. My previous computer, which I owned for 6 years, never went without its case. The case never cracked or broke. I purchased this 13" Macbook Pro case when I got my new computer. I guess not all Speck cases are created equal. Despite never dropping of banging my computer, the bottom portion of the case has these back tabs that cracked and ultimately broke off .Now the bottom case just slides of the computer. A better attention to detail and quality design would have gone a long way.

The fact that my Mac Book Pro only goes from my desk to my laptop case surprises me why this broke when the item has never been dropped. Now the bottom section doesn't stay in place making it not fit for use. The price almost ë£45 does not reflect the quality at all. Poor!

I've always used my macbook without a case, but an accidental drop changed my perspective and compelled me to consider the option of including a case. While hunting around for cases, I found this. A quick comparison and a glimpse at reviews made it clear that Speck was a clear winner. Having used this case for close to 4 months now, I feel I had made the right choice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible Product I bought one of these cases when I switched from PC to Apple. A lot of my friends had them so I assumed it would be a good buy; however, I was very wrong. I am very careful with my MacBook - I've never dropped it, etc. - yet this case is scratched up like a cat attacked it, and there are numerous cracks all along the edges. I gently took the case off last night to clean out dust and such, and a good size chunk on the side just completely broke off. These cases are a HUGE waste of money for the quality. I bought the case back in August and I never plan on buying one again.

I have already replaced it once since November 2012 and I just broke one of the tabs off again. I am very careful with it it just happens. I hope they will replace it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible product, don't waste your money. I got my MacBook a little over a year ago, and being the perfect control freak that i am purchased the case with the computer. I noticed a few months after i had been using the case that the corners were starting to crack. With that starting to happen i began to wonder why? The computer is taken ver well care of it sit stationary 97% of the time. Soon after the case just seems to be cracking by itself. The case finally fell off from being so cracked. I broke down a couple weeks ago and bought a different case and now its cracking too! I'm beyond upset with the quality of this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from poorly designed product Was extremely disappointed in this product. $50, light use and within 1 week cracks started to appear in the top and bottom. Within another week, both corners of the lower case fell of and the whole thing detached from the MBP. Got it replaced, with exactly same scenario. Abandoned the idea of getting a 2nd replacement. Wasted money. Unfortunately, the product is very poorly designed for this particular Mac.

I had mine for 4 month now, it is still as good as new. I get compliment everywhere about the color and the satin look of the material. It is definitely worth the money.

I place the macbook (in the clamshell) into another lined case after using it each time. Now it has two breaks in it; no idea why; has been pampered all along; tried to superglue it; won't hold. The plastic is nice and shiny and so brittle that it spontaneously breaks. Expensive product. Good brand reputation; product doesn't live up to the billing.

Sad thing is my laptop sat on my desk(95%) or kitchen counter(5%) of the time.. A complete waste and Speck looks the other way..

Within the first week, the plastic started breaking and the black things on the bottom of the case were gone, and by the third week, I couldn't put it on my computer anymore. I do not recommend this product because it is low quality and the price is also ridiculous.

However, as mentioned in many reviews below the corners on the bottom portion of the case toward the back crack and break off. This happened to mine and I sent it back in under warranty, they sent a brand new one and the same thing happened within 2 weeks. I am very careful with my laptop and rarely transport it so I don't know why this case can't take minimum daily wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Limited to technology. Speck stays true to their word in regards to what is stated in the warranty. The laptops apple makes keep getting thinner and thinner. People desire protecting their investments but do not wish to sacrifice style over protection. Speck offers the compromise and meets your goals somewhere in between. Unfortunately they fall short when it comes to the bottom of the case. The clips which fasten the bottom of the case to the macbook closest to the screen just does not stay for long. The tension overtime weakens the clip and it will eventually fall off long before the case sees any real impact. I had to have my case replaced over 7 times throughout the year and never once has the top part of the case fallen off or even come close to breaking. I commend you guys for trying to stay active in a world where engineers continue to make your lives difficult. Keep at it and hopefully you someone will help you out and come up with more flexible materials.

However I wish they came in more colors for the 13"" and it makes me a little sad that the tabs broke off and Im having to buy a new one granted its been two years but I rarely took the case off. However, without notice, one of the bigger (and more important) clips holding the bottom portion of the case on snapped off in late October 2015 after only about 2 months of light use. I don't abuse my computer or case and am not entirely sure why or how the case broke. Disappointed in the build quality for the price range this case falls in but, it still looks good and offers pretty optimal scratch protection.

Just to clarify, I put the case on and never once took it off. I did take the computer in and out of my briefcase every day, but that's not an excuse. The satin case was great before that, but for the price it should be much more durable.

I wait for sales, discounts, christmas time etc. Lucky me, I got one for Christmas 13 but like many of the other reviews, the corners on my smart shell broke off of the bottom of the case within three months of getting it cause the bottom to just... fall off. HOWEVER, I contact Speck's customer service using that handy ""chat"" feature and within 15 minutes I had a warranty approval, a shipping label and my old case was being shipped back to speck .The only question they asked was my order number. My brand new one arrived today. This is why i will continue to buy their products. Customer Service says a LOT about a company. Thanks Speck!

I do filmmaking for a living, and I find myself sometimes in need of something extra to protect my Retina Macbook when I set it down in spot that I feel a bit nervous to. Places like concrete floors, rough tables, and the occasional outdoor setting. I never know where it's going to be, and I don't like bulky cases or bags. It still fits in my travel case, but allows me to lay it down, stress free. No more putting my laptop bag down as protection from the elements. The Satin feel is great, doesn't appear much bigger with it on, and the apple logo dimly shining through the back is a nice touch. If anything changes, I'll be sure to post an update.

Every part of the case is great, I like the material, the tight fit, the look, etc. But like the previous reviewer, the two tabs on the back of the bottom piece broke soon after I got it. It has been difficult communicating with support for a replacement. I have traded more than 5 emails with support and still do not have a resolution in motion. This case was not cheap and I am disappointed with my experience.

But after having it for not even a month it started to crack all in the corners. And also it comes with four sticks pads on the bottom to keep a grip, but one fell off. I dont feel this is a good quality product.

Im on the second one and I just put it on two days ago and its already starting to crack. This case is too snug, they need to re-evaluate the computer size and make a case that is not too snug and doesn't start to crack after the second day of use. I'm looking other places for hardshell cases.

Had it 5 weeks and one corner on the bottom case cover cracked off. SPECK is good about their return policy. Will try one that is not Satin finish. Have owned SPECK products for iPhones, MacBooks, iPads and even the iPod. Been buying for the last 7 years or so. This is the first time, I've had a negative experience. Will give them one more chance and see what happens. Maybe the material quality of their products is diminishing.

So on that basis when i bought a new macbook I bought a speck seethru to go along with it and same story as all the rest i t has cracked scratched and lost bits of itself! It has not been dropped has been taken of once and really is a disappointment :( very average all round.

Although the name of the color "Mykonos blue" might throw you off....it looks in real life, like it does online....more teal green. I love it. The only difficulty that I had was getting the top cover on. I actually had so much trouble that I thought that I had been sent the wrong case. -It's just a bit of a difficult install. I googled an installation video and was able to do it fairly easily after watching the product designer demonstrate how to get it on. Really, really nice case. Thank you, Speck.

Bad stating that the small leg supporters on the bottom had fallen off within a short period of time after purchase. I have had mine for about 4 months now and they are still sturdy and on! Also, the case has turned out to be protective and I feel safe with the laptop in my backpack. Overall, I thought the color would be more maroon but I am pleased with the red/pink. I would recommend to others.

Today, June 23, 2013, the second of the tabs that hold the bottom on broke off, meaning the bottom won't stay on. Since it was a gift, warranty isn't an option. I keep the Mac Book and case inside another padded sleeve, so it wasn't getting roughed up or anything. Will be buying a new case, won't be Speck though.

The only thing is I thing that it is a little bit on the pricey side. However when I looked on the market, this case was always the first on the list. So far it has been good. Contrary to other views you may find online, this case actually does still allow you to push your Macbook Pro with Retina Display to the limit you normally can. Also, this case is very easy to put on and take off. I wouldn't recommend getting clear because this is still plastic and there is a chance of the case getting scratched. All in all, I would definitely recommend this case to a friend.

I was really excited to find a case that was lightweight but protective in the exact color that i wanted. However, the case is difficult to snap on and, within a month, had several cracks in it. These are not from dropping the laptop or being careless, but rather stress fractures as a result of low quality plastic. I've dealt with this for a couple months, but now a piece of the case has actually chipped off. I expected more from speck as i enjoy and recommend their cases for my phone and other devices, especially considering that this (at regular price) costs just as much as the pricy ones on apple's website. This was a real disappointment.

I was a bit rough with my older cases and eventually they cracked, but they still stayed on and helped protect my laptop. I'll be sad once they don't make these for this model. :(

The only reason I purchased a new one was due to scratches and a tear in one of the bottom grips,. True to color and fits perfectly. Love how the apple shines through the cover. Difficult to get on, but its definitely secure. I do wish the edges were covered a bit more.

The sentiment apparent in many of the reviews has unfortunately deterred me from purchasing what I had formerly thought of as a high quality brand that would stand up to the test of protecting a valuable piece of machinery (I've used the same speck case on my 2008 macbook which I'm replacing and thus taking a customer journey down the speck trail). These alleged consumers are negatively effecting consumer perception which can be lethal online. Luckily SPeck is able to keep the conversation confined to their branded website. I find it strange that a brand would allow this type of behavior to continue right in front of them. If it is at all possible, I'd very much like an opportunity to speak to someone who handles marketing or CRM. My only hope is that I am the goat here for not making a purchase and the product in no way is flawed contrary to popular opinion. (my hypothetical vote doesn't count)

It'll definitely protect scratches on the outside, which I definitely need since I actually put my computer in my backpack. I recommend this case!

YES, this product broke on me after only 4 months approx :(, the back bottom corner clasps broke! However, although a little troublesome to deal with... I still had my apple receipt (since it was emailed to me) and noticed that Speck honors a one-year warranty from time of purchase - that was quite easy to do! You don't even need your original box! So... until Speck figures out a way to reinforce the clasps... If your driven to have a sleek, soft, ultra-light weight cover -> save your receipt just in case you might need to take advantage of there easy going one-year warranty! Which, considering the STEEP COST of the cover... I was glad to see that they had a solid warranty and GREAT service to go with that :).

My Macbook Pro Retina cost $4000. I'm sure as heck going to be gentle with it. I also own the Speck cases for the Iphone 5, with the rubber grip and they are great as well.

Clearly a design flaw, as so many others seem to have the same issues, and the case is not exactly cheap, so for almost ë£50 i'd expect a bit more quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Design problem As with previous reviewers the case initially appears perfect - good looking lightweight and a real 'skin' for my MB Pro rather than a bulky cover; HOWEVER there is an inherent design issue with the two small rear tags on the base section- these break away after a few weeks use. You can still limp along with the case but it now has a habit of sliding off in my bag and allowing grit to fall inside - now ironically causing a series of scratches on my machine. I don't understand why these are more substantial - they could certainly be made larger / thicker to present this. Now on my (broken) 2nd. Sadly will have to trade into something bigger and bulkier.

This is my second case for this Macbook Pro Retina. The first was still protecting my laptop even though it had a crack on one piece and a corner missing from the other. This was due to knocking my laptop off a table onto a tile floor. The Macbbok suffered just a smidge of damage. That's how good the Speck case is. Thank you for preserving my laptop. It is holding up well to all the travel I do. Great product and I appreciate the efficiency of ordering online and how quickly it is sent out. Well done!

I was carrying my MacBook and the clips broke off the bottom half of the case and my MacBook fell right on the floor. I had the case in my hand with no computer in it. Thank goodness I was on carpet so my computer was fine, but if I was on tile or concrete.....I'd be replacing my screen ?? save your money and your computer by finding another brand.

Now corner of bottom shell chipped off for no apparent reason. Had a Speck shell before on a previous laptop, it did the job, this one feels finicky like the are cutting cost on the material. I was showing my sleek looking case and notice some scratches at the bottom. I was shocked since I am very careful. Now I have a cloth cover to protect the bottom. Other than that I am very happy with it and will recommend to anyone. I get lots of compliments when they see it.

The lid piece is usually better but this time it is cracking and super scratched even though I rarely take it outside of my dorm room without another laptop sleeve on it. Not work buying. Will be looking into other options.

They're too weak and under normal use they will eventually break (within a few months if you're lucky). Happens to everyone I know. Maybe if the case was $10-$20 I wouldn't care and would buy another... But at $50, it should last longer than 3 months.

The first crack was small and annoying, but I dealt with it until a couple other cracks appeared and then the pieces started breaking off of it. Finally I returned it for a refund and tried one more time. I purchased the "hot lips pink" case and it started to crack in two months of owning it. There are three cracks on this current one- lower right corner, just to the side of the mouse pad; on left side where the opening is for USB and other devices/cords; and the lid cover top left looking at it as it is closed. A tiny piece just broke off the lower right crack today. DO NOT EVER WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS CASE. I can't get a refund on my second case so I am stuck with trying to get a replacement under warranty. Seems like a waste since I am sure I will have to keep getting it replaced. Looking for other options in the meanwhile (I only used this in my bedroom and never dropped or banged it. Should be able to handle such gentle use!)

All four corners of the top portion of the case cracked within the first week of owning the case and after another 3 months of owning the case, both of the large corner clips on the bottom portion snapped off unexpectedly. After the clips broke off, the fractured corners started to chip and break into small pieces, falling off of the case bit by bit.. Mind you, I am not rough with my case/computer and never so much as dropped the case without it breaking on me. The case is stylish but failed at its job of being protective (in all regards) much sooner than expected. Also, the warranty process for a Speck product is like jumping through hoop after hoop.

It never goes anywhere with just the hardshell case yet somehow, without dropping just taking it in and out of the case it has cracked to pieces. Waste of money, buy a cheap one because it'll last the same.

What i HATE about it is that the case rubs on the underside of my arms, right below my wrists and it hurts!! I finally just removed the bottom portion of the case. Wish there were a better solution. I wonder if anyone else has this problem?

I am pretty careful with my laptop but like to keep a case on it to prevent scratches/spills/etc. I'm very impressed with the quality of this Speck case, as I've been shopping around for a while and have seen a lot of flimsy ones from other brands. The plastic on this is thick enough to withstand punishment and also has a cool matte texture to it which makes it feel higher end than the normal smooth plastic ones.

When you have spent the money on the laptop having a case like this is a no-brainer. The material of the case does not scratch easily and is much less slippery than the aluminium of the laptop, making it safer to carry. It fits well and I have very few complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye-catching looks; problems with the feet I love how my 15"" MB Pro looks in this case. All black, with the Apple logo beaming through the translucent top shell is cool. However, it's not without its issues. For one, the feet. The case has four circular pads that align with the feet of the MBP. And, they apparently pop out. I've lost one. Not sure how it happened, and or how to get a replacement. If it involves buying another case, I'm not interested. Second, scratch the case and it ""bleeds"" white, a very unwelcome contrast. Not sure if I'd purchase another Speck. My experience has been mixed.

Now the top corners on the screen are gone and the top corners next to the keyboard, leaving the bottom half of the case able to slide off. Other side pieces have also cracked and broken off. I have never dropped my laptop or been rough with it. But still the case is broken and unusable. I am very disappointed with this product.

The bottom part of the cover has two rear clips, one of them both broke off within 6 months of purchase seemingly at random. My Mac Book Pro also only goes from my desk to my laptop case and has never been dropped or treated roughly. Now the bottom section doesn't stay in place. The price $49.95 does not reflect the durability. I will however give the case credit for protecting my MBP from general wear and tear (scuffs and scratches) during the few months that it was useable and for being slim enough that it doesn't take away from the elegance of the thin rMBP. I looked in to Specks return policy and it sounded cumbersome so I haven't tried to get it exchanged under warranty yet.

Thin shell, with a grippy surface, preventing the laptop from sliding on any surface, easy to carry. Tight tolerances; shell & macbook feel as one. Air vents & cutouts for accessory ports are well designed. Speck's customer service & warranty were great, helpful on the phone, as well as providing return fedex label for warranty replacement. Cons: Lower shell tab's lasted 4 months until they broke. To keep the macbook scratch free, I would remove the shell to clean out the accumulated dust.

But the bottom piece does not fully snap on to my laptop. It's the right size, but the tabs that are supposed to hold the case onto the computer aren't quite strong enough. Still a very good product that I would buy again.

I've had this case for 6 months and it hasn't worn well. I've never dropped my mac or treated it carelessly, so there's no reason for the case to be in such horrible condition.

I thought it was just one edge at first as there seemed to be extra plastic there that shouldn't have been there, however just leaning my arms on the case while typing isn't pleasant due to the rough edges. The case would be better if they rounded the edges.

I returned to Speck because I liked the look and feel and anything that will help protect a $3,000+ laptop, while still keeping it slim and light is okay with me. These cases are delicate and need to be handled with care, but if you're careful with the clips they""re a great investment and really do help prevent scratches and dents from getting on your expensive computer. The price is a little high, but compared to that of the computer it is protecting, it is a small price to pay. My biggest complaint (for now, anyway) is the addition of the raised Speck logo on the top cover. If that continues to be the case I will be a very happy laptop user!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clips on bottom of case crack/break very easily Case looks and feels great...However, within 3-4 months of basic use, the clips which secure the bottom case got a crack then eventually fell off completely...because these clips secure the bottom of the laptop in the back, if they fall off completely the case is useless -- your laptop will slide right out of it...and if you forget about it your computer is at risk of slipping when you pick it up...i will say, however, that the top case (that protects the screen) is EXTREMELY durable..in fact, the case takes 10 minutes for me to take off its so secure and locked on....it does still get minor dents and dings, however, from bumping into things..

I have a Fall 2016 Macbook Pro, and Speck does not have a case that will fit it yet. I didn't read the details closely enough and so bought this mistakenly. Seemed great quality though, and I wish it had fit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great, but brittle love the way this fits snugly to the macbook, but it is very brittle and both of the bottom back end corners have broken off after a few weeks of use. i now use double sided tape to seal it to the underside of the macbook.

I was horrified when my laptop bounced not once , but twice, on the driveway. The cement took chunks out of opposing corners of the shell, but my laptop started right up and has been working great ever since, a month later. The case stayed on and closed during the entire fiasco. I smoothed the corners with a pedicure file, so while it looks a little worse for the wear, it is still going strong unless you look closely. Would buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will not buy this product again. Horrible. My grandparents got me a Mac for my birthday and I wanted to protect it so I bought this case. The case was not on my computer for a week before it started cracking. I have been using it for a month now and the bottom falls off because pieces have broken off. I am not harsh on my computer and put it in a well-protected pouch when carrying. There is no reason the case should be cracked and broken everywhere in such a short amount of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE SPECK I purchased my 15"" ret cover. A month later it cracked from me trying to take it off (THEY REALLY FIT WELL). I contacted customer service, sent them a picture of the damage and they sent me a complete new cover that arrived 3 days later with no questions asked. I see people on here complaining about their warranty. To me, their warranty is as good as gold and worth every penny. Their integrity to their warranty program has made me a Speck customer tfn.

I was excited to get a Speck case because I had a similar one (but in yellow) on my old Macbook and it lasted for five years without a problem! This newer case, however, broke within the first few months of me using it, and I don't think I did much to warrant all of the cracked off corners. Needless to say, I was wholly under-impressed with the durability of the protective case. How can it protect my computer if it can't even hold up itself??

I previously had another Speck case that held up for a year and was hoping that is what the new one would last me. Extremely disappointed with my last purchase. For the price the quality should be better. Hopefully my most recent purchase will last longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little unhappy I purchased the black satin speck case because it looks fantastic. I must say they are very nice to the touch. Unfortunately, they are not durable at all. I've had my case for about 3 weeks now, and a corner piece has chipped off while several white scratches appear on the case itself. After taking the case off I noticed 3 small scratches on the bottom of my Mac. To get to the point I expected a better product for the price. Better materials need to be used. Just because this company holds a significant market share for computer cases does not mean they should skimp out of higher quality materials.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better the case than the computer I have been using the spec shell case on my MacBook Pro computer for the past 13 months, I am getting ready to sell my laptop and buying a replacement. I took the case off for the first time since it was installed over a year ago. I could not believe how scratched up the case was...top and bottom. Literally every square inch. So I was wondering how the heck could I have scratched up the case that bad...and then I thought back.... All the times I'm carrying it around in the computer bag with the charger against it, in my hands with stuff balanced on top, in the back seat of my car with the kids things banging against in, on the counter with my car keys on top, in the closet with the vacuum when my wife cleans up. For the past year, I have been completely careless because of that protective case. So I I'm taking off the case for the first time and I notice one other thing besides the scratches. My MacBook looks perfect. I protected the outside with the Spec case, the screen with a protector, the keyboard with a skin, and the surface and trackpad with a sticker. A little overkill I realize, but when I take them all off, the computer is flawless. There is not a single scrtach, rub mark, ding, dent, hair in the keyboard or wear mark on the keys. The computer looks brand new. I never really thought much about the case until I saw the abuse it took, and that it completely saved the computer. Selling will be so much easier now. And I'm sure the money I spent on the case will be more than made back when I sell a perfect condition computer. Without a doubt will buy another for the replacement laptop. And I'll never complain about the scratches!

It looks excellent, none of the tabs have broken off like in some other reviews, even though I have a habit of playing with them absent-mindedly. The satin makes my macbook nice to hold and the feet haven't worn. The vents are placed strategically- compared to some brands where the vents are random. The case doesn't hinder any usb sockets etc, and there are holes for the mics too (the mics on the 13"" rmbp are on the side). It'd be nice if it was less pricey, especially since I'm overseas, but I'd still recommend it as I'm on my first case and it's still in great condition 5 months on.

But the tabs on the back corners of the bottom piece broke off. Now the bottom piece is loose and falls off. I now need to buy a new one, and these things aren't cheap. The tabs are very thin and easily broken. I fear if I buy a new one, the tabs will break off again within a few months and I'll be in the same situation all over again.

I even made sure to contact Speck to learn how to take it off correctly, so I wasn't just ripping it off. I was being very gentle. Do not recommend.

I've been using speck for my iPhone 4 and 5 so I was confident that it's a good choice for my rMBP. I got scratches all over the case in less that 1 week. It just looks ugly. The upper corner clip of the bottom shell snapped in 3 weeks. I was fortunate to have it replaced but if I was given a choice, i think I will get the SeeThru Satin which I think will attract less scratches.

Huge Mistake! Cracks in the case began forming in less than 30 days. Then the tabs and projections that hold the base cover in place began to break off. My cover is unusable less than 4-months after purchase. Apparently Speck cases for RetinaBooks are too thin to be durable - AVOID THESE COVERS COMPLETELY!

It's not going to hold up through rough use (being thrown around in a backpack that doesn't have a laptop sleeve, dropped when carrying, etc.) This case WILL protect your laptop against scratches and looks very nice. I will continue to order a new clear or black speck case every six months or so to decorate before installing on my laptop. For anyone looking for a product that will increase the durability and longevity of their macbook, I suggest that you look elsewhere. This is purely a scratch protecting accessory.

I contacted customer service and they replaced it quickly and without hassle. If looking to buy a new case, I would recommend looking elsewhere. However, if your laptop doesn't get much use/wear, these are lightweight and attractive cases.

Anyway, I love Speck, their products and their customer service. I have a few of their phone cases and have had some computer cases from them in the past. I got one of these cases for my Retina directly from Speck and the rear tabs on the bottom part of the case snapped off. These are the tabs that wrap over at the back corners on the bottom part of the aluminum body (not the screen portion). I called Speck they sent me another...same exact thing in a couple weeks. They then sent me another more ""robust"" model and it's been holding for a couple months...no broken tabs. The customer service could not have been more helpful but he would not admit that the product has a design flaw even though many of the reviewers here have the same issue. Anyway, just wanted to share this in the hope it will benefit someone. I'm a Speck customer for the future as they've more than stood behind the product. Thanks.

There is another brand that is better built and has integral swing down legs that hold the MBP at a perfect angle. Under 20.00 inc. tax and shipping on Amazon. I would name the brand but Speck might censor this review if I do.

After 3 months the tabs holding the bottom broke off and by month 5 the edges of the top had broken off too. I am very careful and have never dropped my laptop. Speck cases for phones have never failed me but don't waist the $50 bucks on this item. Anybody know where to find a good protector for the Macbook Pro w/retina?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On my 3rd speck case and it cracked AGAIN I have gone through THREE speck cases for my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" and all of them have cracked on the edges. My moms recent case the back parts on the bottom broke off which made the case able to slide off and fall out of my hand. My laptop is currently getting repaired because it fell out of the case. I handle my laptop with care and even have another case I put my laptop in when I'm traveling. Very disappointed and would not ever recommend anyone to buy a speck laptop case

I accidentally set my laptop down on a table too hard and part of the bottom bent, screwing up some of my ports, even though the case was there to "protect" it. My laptop may as well not have a case on it at all. And I've never taken the case fully off, as I've heard various horror stories of MacBooks getting extremely scratched when Speck cases are taken off. I assume mine will be scratched at least a little bit as well, judging by how difficult it is to get the plastic off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you don't mind sanding a little.... Speck almost got it right for Macbook pro retina 15"". Unfortunately, the bottom case piece has a sharp lip that your palms run over while using the keyboard. I decided to correct the manufacturing DEFECT myself by sanding off the front edge by a few thousands and now its fine. Had I not picked this up as a ""open item"" I would not have fixed the problem but rather returned it. So best results will be with a block sander using 150 grit paper and making sure to round out the outside edge of the lower case that your palms will run over.

The only cons I have are it gets smudged easily and leaves marks and the other con is, it doesn't "hug" my macbook like I expected however that's more of a personal opinion.

I have purchased two of the 13" cases over the past 2-3 years. When the first one failed I accepted it was due to possibly rough treatment by my grandkids. I finally decided to give it another try and order another one. I ordered the case in November 2017. Within a couple of weeks there were cracks on three corners of the top. At that time my grandkids had not used the computer and I had not dropped it or bumped the corners. It has continued to crack further with some pieces missing. It seems the case may be designed too tight causing the cracks. I like the looks and colors of your product, but I will have to try a different brand in the near future.

I have the clear version for my 2012 MBP Retina and Pre Retina MBP 13"" and I've never had a problem with any of them. I even have an icarbons skin on the inside and the trackpad and it still fits perfectly. So I don't know what the issue is... For my laptops I will always go speck as they've always held up well. Perhaps some of you drop your laptop and expect it not to break. There is no way a hodge could break. The back is completely exposed and only the USB, chairing and other ports are left open. This case is meant to stay on and not for you to take on and off. So if that's what you're doing then that's not speck that's YOU!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cracks on Cracks on Cracks Within about 2 weeks of owning this product, and not doing anything out of the ordinary to prompt damage, this case started to crack at the terribly brittle corners. Within the first few months, all the corners on the top half of the case have chipped off and are no longer present to protect the case. The clasps that are supposed to hold the case onto the computer on the bottom half of the case have also mostly all broken off. Very disappointing, especially because I use many of their other products for protection, and those all seem to hold up quite nicely. I will look for other case providers for future devices for phone and laptop from now on.

I contacted the company on my first one a few months ago and they sent me a new one and then 2 weeks later it breaks again. Im going to contact them again to see what we can do about this.

The material has some give to it and is like plastic meets rubber. It's just what I expected it to be. Now this material may crack or break if you drop your laptop but it's not suited for that purpose. Macs are made from titanium so you can't expect a material of this sort to sustain such. Overall, it's heat and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Unfortunately this is not the case for me. It has been less than a year that I've had my laptop and it does not leave my house, let alone my desk. The corner is cracked on the top and bottom layers of the case already. I have never dropped my laptop or thrown it around carelessly. I specifically chose Speck over other leading brands because of the "durability", Speck uses the #designedforimpact....maybe if impact is a pillow. I thought the products were worth the pricey numbers I paid but it turns out I was wrong. It is sad to say Speck has lost me as a customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy For Over 7 Years I've used the Speck cases for at least 7 years (perhaps longer) and I could not be more satisfied. I like the protection the case provides, the fact that it is lightweight, that it is not bulky and allows my computer to fit into most computer compartments in briefcases, and especially the COLORS. It's great that in a sea of MacBooks I can easily find my computer. I'm always surprised to see how much dust collects so it's a good idea to periodically take the cover off and wipe down the inside.

I dealt with it for a while and then decided to purchase a new one after the bottom was basically falling off. The new one came in and the same thing happened within a week. The rear tabs on the bottom piece broke off just from taking the laptop in and out of my backpack. Very poorly designed. Don't waste your money on this one. It is disappointing because my previous Speck purchases have been great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sleek design, bad quality i ordered this case as soon as i purchased my rMBP late 2012. i knew when purchasing that this case wasn't meant to be dropped, bumped or any sort of rough handling. i rarely used my computer for the first year because i was travelling a lot and my iPad was easier carry. as soon as i stopped travelling, i started using my macbook, the case lasted about 10 months until the bottom clips broke off. got a replacement because i was still under warranty for a couple more weeks. taking out the bottom case was a nightmare but it's good to know that it's a snug fit. had my replacement case for about 4 months before i started noticing cracks where the clips are (again, but i wasn't surprised this time) but unfortunately, my warranty expired :( my brothers owns the smartshell MBP in clear and it's still in great condition. unfortunately, i chose vanity and colour over anything practical so it is partially my fault; i also don't like anything that is glossy so anything matte is more preferred. it's also easier to spot my rMBP in a office full of MBP and rMBP with speck cases. perhaps, if speck creates a ""smart shell satin"" case in pomodoro red that has the same quality as the ""smart shell,"" i would give it another chance. overall, the price i paid for 2 cases (1 bought, and 1 replaced under warranty), was worth it. however, the expectations i had for this case was not up to my standard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great case This is a great case that shows off the Macbook Pro Retina's sexiness but please be warned. Do NOT put this case over a vinyl type shield or you may never get this case off again. Like others, when I get my rMBP, I wanted to immediately protect it and the first things available on the market were the vinyl skins so I put one on the bottom to protect it from scratches until I got the Speck case. Then when I did manage to pick up a Speck case, I decided I might as well just put it over the skin. I figured I might as well do that to prevent dust that might get between the Speck case and the MBP could still scratch it. I do like to baby my Apple products and thought I was being wise. Boy, was that ever a mistake. After having my rMBP for about six months, I needed to take it in for repair. I realized I would need to remove the speck case and also the skin as they needed to replace the bottom case for the repair I needed. It actually took me over an hour using four different plastic kitchen spatulas and garden gloves to slowly AND painfully pull the bottom Speck case away from the skin. They had nearly melted together. I'm actually quite shocked that the Speck case survived the ordeal because it was NOT pretty. Needless to say, the skin did NOT survive the deal and was completely outstretched and not salvageable. So please don't make the same mistake I made. The underside of a MBP (or any laptop for that matter) gets quite hot so it completely makes sense that two plastics might form a pretty close bond after several months use. So 5 stars for Speck's quality. Minus 5 stars for my stupidity.

When I recently replaced it with a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, I purchased a new Speck case right at the Apple store. My first case had a few defects. The bottom case did not fit my laptop appropriately - there was a gap as big as my student ID at the front - and the top left corner of the case did not fit over the corner of my laptop. These defects caused the case to slip off the laptop randomly. I contacted Speck customer service and filed a claim under the 1 year warranty. I received my replacement case, and it fits much better. So, don't be turned off by reviews of improper fit. If the case doesn't fit correctly because of defects, Speck will replace it. As for reviews claiming the case cracks easily, I never cracked my original Speck case in the four years I owned it. My original defective case cracked on the corner where it did not fit because there was too much tension on the case itself. I have never lost a rubberized foot on either Speck case even after 4 years of use and removing them periodically to clean them. Yes, the case adds about an inch of overall thickness to your laptop, but it is worth it for the protection it affords it. It doesn't add so much thickness that you can't used a protective sleeve. If you take care of your laptop by not dropping it or banging it off surface, the case serves to reduce small impacts and prevent scratches to the aluminum body of the laptop itself. Be sure to take the case off periodically to clean any dust or crumbs that get inside the case because they will rub against the aluminum body and create small scratches. Overall, this case is well worth its price and has a great quality. I wouldn't have purchased this one if my previous case hadn't survived 4 years of travel, including to a remote village in Guatemala, and the average wear and tear of class and lab use.

If you look at the second picture you can see how the computer can literally slide out of the case. Now I just use the top part which is also cracked. Keep in mind that I have never dropped my laptop. This cracking is just from slight bumps that I would expect the case to be able to withstand. If this case breaks so easily, how is it supposed to protect my laptop at all?

I don't travel with my laptop, and it has never been dropped. When I called customer service I was told my cover was out of warranty so all they could offer me was a 20% discount on a new one. Unfortunately, there is a minor problem with the corners in the lower part of the case. The corners at the back tend to break. Out of the box I loved it - looks great, and it's light - but all 3 have cracked in the front corners on the bottom and one of them had cracks that caused one of the little tabs on the back to eventually break off. I wish they would fix their design/engineering because the case is aesthetically the nicest on the market.

I didn't do anything to it except use it on my Laptop. I mean, it's a very pricy laptop, it's not like I'm throwing it around. Kind of disappointed that this happened. Obviously they didn't make the case very sturdy at all. All I did was take it out of my laptop bag, and the bottom started to come off because the back corner broke off. :/ Lame.

I'm pretty sure it's not wear and tear if there is nothing to tear in the first place. On the bright side, they sent me a new case, so this case is worth it with it's replacement guarantee. I certainly hope they fix the rear tabs though. They are very weak and need to be reinforced in some way.

In March I noticed that there were 4 cracks (two small ones on the top part and two big ones on the bottom portion). I emailed Speck customer service and they were nice and replaced it for me. So this second one has been the same experience. At first they were smaller cracks and now are to the point where the bottom piece is loose. I'm very careful with my Laptop and not sure how these cracks are even occurring since my laptop is mostly on my desk and occasionally on my lap. I could try getting it replaced again but what would be the point if it's going to crack again. Very Disappointed. For $50 I was expecting better quality.

While I got my Speck Glossy Finish for my Macbook Pro 13" w/Retina mid 2014 model at a good price off an auction site, it didn't even last a year before it cracked in 3 places, rendering the bottom section completely useless w/a decent crack in the top. It was only a matter of time before that became useless as well. I ended up putting on the case I had (different brand) prior to it for 3+ years with no issues. I just had wanted a change but it should have lasted longer than 10 months. Thing is, I don't even take it with me anywhere. My laptop stays at home and goes from table to couch pretty much and that's it and it still didn't last. Since I bought off an auction site, doubt I can get anything done with it as I know it has a 1 year warranty. It shouldn't have cracked like that though regardless of what I paid for it.

My first was an incase and lasted 3 years until I sold the computer with the case still on it (that was for a macbook pro without retina). Then I had my second case which lasted well over a year. I bought this speck case to replace it and within about 2 weeks the back pieces on the bottom had broken off and the two corners were cracked. I am not hard or rough with my computer. The product is just not well made.

Case fits like a glove and does not add any significant weight. Material is nice to the touch and feels durable. The two tabs holding the case protector broke. I called Speck and they said the case was not covered by a life time warranty. I thought it had. Speck, however, provided me a coupon for a $10 discount off the next purchase, as long as the item was not on sale I believe. Enough about my unhappiness that it was not covered. The problem has occurred on previous cases made by Speck. Other than Speck not providing a life time warranty, the product is fine.

The plastic looks nice when first put on then it starts to show stress fractures in the corners. This is without heavy or carless use. The stress cracks then become bigger to the point it no longer is useable. It's a nice looking case but not durable at all. I give it 2 star only because it looks nice when new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice while it lasts first of all this is not a cheap case (costing me around ë£40) but despite this within four months of purchasing the item (and using it very lightly) the clips that hold it onto the macbook snapped off, a problem that a shocking number of people have experienced. i then returned the case and did not get a replacement for this reason. i must say that while it was correctly attached to my mac it did protect the lid from scratchers and the texture and aesthetics were nice but the cost and flimsiness of the case make it really ruin an otherwise nice product. i would recommend that you buy a sleeve for your mac instead of a case like this.

Only thing is that it the corners started cracking very quickly on the top, pieces were coming off. Only after about 2 weeks-maybe less. My computer sits on a desk, so there's no reason for the case to crack. Scratches easily.

They're too weak and under normal use they will eventually break (within a few months if you're lucky). Happens to everyone I know. Maybe if the case was $10-$20 I wouldn't care and would buy another... But at $50, it should last longer than 3 months.

But in about 2 more months case almost destructed itself and now I'm looking for the new one. I've read some negative reviews before buying it, I thought that people were just careless, and I gave it a shot. I was carying it in my backpack, every workday, just a regular routine, home-car-work-car- home. Couple of times I threw my backpack pretty hard on the floor... and still my laptop is like new, not a scratch. Well, if it would serve at least one yeart, I would rate it 5-star product. But we can do the maths: 50 USD* 4 times a year= 200 bucks. I think i will find some better protection for 200 bucks a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Follow-up This is a critical follow-up to my first review. I finally contacted Speck. To their credit, their customer service was fantastic. They were quick to replace the case under warranty. The entire warranty process was fast and painless. Aside from the issue with the rear tab breaking, I super love this case. It keeps My Precious from getting scratched, scuffed, and dinged while being as minimally invasive as possible. The brushed aluminum that the MBP is made of, while beautiful and elegant, is prone to topical damage (it is nearly unavoidable even for the most cautious of people). This case will keep your Mac looking like new. Time will tell if the tabs on the replacement case hold up but for now I am a happy customer. On a side note this case has served a secondary purpose. I have one of those beautiful vinyl stickers for my Mac (from Etsy). It is very intricate and has some fine (and delicate) details. Unfortunately due to the delicacy, some of the delicate parts of the sticker would get snagged and start to peel off when slipping the Mac in and out of its carrying case (my backpack). This I fear would have ultimately lead to the sticker getting damaged. This case serves the secondary function of keeping the decal secure and safe from snagging (since it covers it). I have the clear version of this case so that the sticker is perfectly visible. The combination gives my Mac a beautiful and unique look that perfectly suits my personality. My rating was a bit harsh in the last review. This I fear will lead others to the conclusion that this isn't a good case. As I said, aside from the tab breaking I do really like the case. So I am going to give it some extra stars in this follow-up review to better reflect my satisfaction with the product. In response to Greg's post: Neither of my cases have had a sharp lip. They were/are super smooth. So I can only conclude that the case Greg got must have been defective. Which is a bummer for Greg but I don't believe that it reflects the product line as a whole. There are one or two reviews complaining that the case didn't protect their computers from being dropped. This is simply idiotic. Seriously people? You cannot expect a case of any kind to protect a computer from being dropped. Computers are big and delicate. Don't be a Jacka**.

I don't believe any thin plastic shell can really last the way it fits so snugly to the computer. I've had other brands and none can stand the forces. But Speck leaves those other brands in the dust when it comes to supporting their product. Bravo!

Unlike my other two cases, this one is halfway useless to me now, because both back tabs on the bottom half of the case have broken, so now the bottom half of the case falls off every time I move my laptop. I've had the case for about 6 months, and I am not rough with my laptop at all. It's a great case while it lasts, but definitely not worth $50.

I got it for college and had it on my laptop INSIDE of a protective sleeve INSIDE of a protective laptop compartment in my backpack, but within only three months it started to chip at the corners and is now cracking along the bottom edge. If I were rough with how I handled my computer that would be one thing, but I wasn't and had the CASE inside of a protective sleeve that was also inside of a protective laptop compartment in a backpack. The quality is absolutely horrible and I will not buy another one.

Decided to go with this one because out of all the other MacBook cases I was looking at, believe it or not, this one had the better reviews. Its not a bad case, its just mainly the quality. Its good for protection against scratches on the top and bottom of the MacBook. But I already had to get a warranty replacement because the clips that hold the bottom part onto the MacBook broke. And thats because I don't even really use my MacBook that often. Maybe once or twice every couple of days. If the price wasn't so high for the quality of the case you get, I would probably have given it a better review.

Came here hoping to see a replacement offer from Speck, or at least an improved model. I'll be looking for something else to replace now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works but it cracks... I bought this case for my new MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display to keep the laptop protected from any damage during its lifetime. I use my laptop for school and leave it on my desk in my office, occasionally taking it home. After owning this case for two weeks I began to notice small cracks forming on the case, the largest being near the charging port. I am not the type of person who is careless with any electronics, so I was shocked to see that the case is already cracking. My previous laptop case from Speck lasted me for over four years and is in better condition than this new one that I purchased a month ago now. The case still works, but I am very concerned that it will not last nearly as long as I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from breaks easily i just got it for my new mbp retina (over $3500) I just return mine at the apple store, it took only a week and a half to break (bottom right back tab) . Lucky that didn't pass the 2 week warranty that apple give you so they gave me the money back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally AWESOME Product The fit is perfect. The color is spectacular. Safeguards my expensive MacBook Pro from damages, scratches, and accidents. This is the second Speck case I purchased for my second Mac. Bought an knock-off once from eBay at half the price - the thing didn't fit and did not last. The value of an authentic Speck case from a reputable company that backs and guarantees it's products are well worth the money spent. I would buy a SmartShell from Speck for ALL my MacBooks in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from broke after 2 months of use I love this case and have had one for my previous mac book, however this one broke after only 2 months of use! the corners on the bottom piece broke off randomly. I did not mishandle or drop my computer at all. I really don't tote it around much either so I'm not sure what could have caused this. I'm really disappointed being that I paid $50 for this case and it barely lasted two months...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good Having used the SeeThru Clear case for my 13"" Retina Macbook Pro I can safety say it takes a load off my mind. Keeps the aluminum finish looking great, because it's clear I decorated it a little bit by putting some images under the case. Looks great. Had to remove a couple of times and so far all of the tabs are intact, no cracking or anything. It's beginning to become scratched with use but that's exactly why I have it. Love that it's see through, doesn't take away from the naked Macbook-ness so many others appreciate as well. Very satisfied so far.

I called customer service to confirm it would fit prior to purchase. I contacted customer service again, & their overall response was "too bad". I assume that's why the item was on sale; to get rid of the old stock. I returned the item. Not interested in doing future business with them due to false advertising, & uninformed customer service.

Once these tabs break off, the product becomes useless. $20 or even less would be a more appropriate price for these until they fix this design flaw. Would not recommend.

I have never dropped my laptop and have taken extremely good care of it. It is kept in a sleeve when it is not in use. I am very disappointed that this case has cracked so quickly and easily. I was shocked because this case is very thick plastic and seemed very durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from terrible quality I've had a similar experience to Lee Hall and JN. One of the clips on the bottom of my case also broke off WITHIN ONE MONTH OF PURCHASE randomly. I didn't do anything (ex. drop my case, etc) to cause it to break off and I am very disappointed because these cases are expensive! I agree that the protection from scratches and scuffs is good and I also looked into the warranty and agree that it appears extremely cumbersome. I am very disappointed in this product considering what I paid for it.

Unfortunately, this is the second one of these cases which I bought. The first one I bought from a third party website and it cracked within 6 wks. Thinking it is was just bad luck and since I loved the color so much, I bought another directly from the Speck website. Yes, once again it cracked in the same place along the side. I normally don't give reviews, but, I thought I should inform others of my experience before spending $49.00. {If you Google this product, you will find other people complaining about the same issue.}

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Case and WHY After Comparing this case to all the other leading competitors I came to the conclusion that this case is the best case for the rMBP. The reason why is because it fits perfect, sleek, and thin. Some of the other cases are little thicker the protection is still the same for dents and scratches. If you want complete protection I would recommend adding a leather sleeve to put you rMBP in with the the SmartShell case on from high drops or for throwing it around in your backpack or brief case. I use this setup for school without having to worry. NOTE: I was worried about the black case not showing the Apple led light on the back of the monitor screen but it shows through perfectly. Price: Price is on the high side but compared to leading brands it's at the same price. Value: Your spending 2,000 plus dollars on your laptop so why not get a good case that is perfectly compatible with the rMBP. Quality: The materials used are great and durable. With the warranty if anything were to happen with the case, Speck will get you a new one! One problem I have with the case was the plastic cover that covered the back of the LED screen. When I opened or closed the lid from the center it would make a crack noise because it was not tight in that area. I exchanged it for a new one and I don't have this problem anymore.
