It's a thicker gauge wire than the regulars so it can handle being bent into different positions. My dog chewed on it and it still works.

I'm pretty tough on cables and cords- always throwing them in my backpack or allowing my toddler to connect/disconnect my electronics and sometimes pulling the cable beyond recognition. Tripp-lite products are strong and durable.
