The laptop is lightweight in my bag, even with the charger, and I appreciate how sturdily lenovo are built. I love the fingerprint scanner and the long battery life. I highly recommend this laptop for students or as a mobile work station.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great College Laptop I purchased a ThinkPad T495s for college, and so far I am extremely pleased with it. Pros: Very lightweight. Battery life easily hits 8-9+ usable hours. Charges up fast. Keyboard is extremely responsive and backlighting looks nice. Trackpad and trackpoint both feel great and natural to use. Fingerprint reader is very fast and accurate. Matte finish screen looks great and is very clear with no glare. VERY FAST regarding bootup, opening programs, web browsing, basically everything. Installing Windows updates is no longer a painfully-long process. The AMD CPU and GPU combo is more than enough power for general use and a terrific value. The fan only runs when it needs to, creating a very quiet experience. Great variety of ports. Cons: Advertised with 8 GB of RAM, the usable portion of that RAM is only 5.9 GB. A whole 2.1 GB is considered "Hardware Reserved." I haven't attempted to alter this, but it may be possible to change this in the BIOS, and it may also be shared by the Radeon Vega graphics. Top bezel is a little thick. No dedicated media pause/skip/playback keys. The speakers leave quite a bit to be desired, but I view the vast majority of media with headphones so it isn't an issue. Lower left CTRL and FN keys are switched, but the included Lenovo Vantage software allows them to be remapped. Overall, I am very satisfied. This laptop is a good value and focuses on practicality over gimmicks, a great design philosophy.

I didn't have as much expectative about AMD, because of the small caché memory, but this processor has blown my mind, It is very, very good. It is a great and cheap alternative, and I have no complaints using Matlab and or Altium designer, of course, comparing it with intel of the same level.

It looks and feels really premium, the display is crisp and clean, the keyboard is probably the best on any notebook I've used in years. Plenty of power with the Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U processor and it stays really quiet in regular use.

Im getting 8-12 hours of battery with the aforementioned processor which is fantastic. Fingerprint scanner as well as the 400 nit display low-power display never disappoint. SSD that comes with is is very fast, boots windows from cold in a bout 5 seconds. One of the best processes I've ever had setting up a new laptop as well. Everything worked out of the box, no extra installs needed, it was almost like a Lenovo twist on Windows 10. Would purchase again.

Fingerprint reader and WWAN card not supported in linux. From what I can tell, the WWAN card will never be supported in linux. Lenovo simply needs to whitelist USB support for the card to allow full linux compatibility.

It's much lighter than my previous laptop, it runs much faster with the Ryzen Pro processor and the battery appears to last an incredibly long amount of time even while playing videos! ... I love it!

I have an X1 Carbon for work, which I love, but I couldn’t justify the cost of another X1 for a home laptop that is mostly for light duty. The T495s is perfect because you get a system that is almost as light and almost as fast, and still has that rock solid build and awesome keyboard, for significantly less money.

This is a very nice laptop overall, I really like it. The only complaint is that the quality of the speaker is not so good, so I use my bluetooth speaker instead (hence -1 star. Other than that, this is the best quality laptop I have ever used. I recommend it!

We are mostly using it for light office productivity apps and one online game (Zwift). Battery life has been pretty good. The only knock I have is there had been a pop-up under one login about some out of date Ati software (video) or drivers. Looked into it a bit when we received it, but had not affected performance and haven't invested much time in resolving

It's thinner, lighter and a bit smaller in overall size the the T4030u but has the same 14" screen. I would recommend the T495s for anyone who need portability in a notebook computer.

I’m so happy with the Lenovo keyboard every time I type up anything at work and outside of work. I was concerned about the display not being bright enough, but I don’t have any issues with it. It’s bright enough without hurting my eyes, but not too dark that I can’t read anything. It boots up pretty quickly as well. The fingerprint lock feature is incredibly convenient and super fast. Didn’t expect that I would use finger print feature, but I’m fully enjoying it.

I have tried other computer brands in the past such as Dell, HP and Mac to help minimize my learning disorder(for reading, writing, spelling, etc. I reached out to Lenova since computers are their only focus and spoke with a super knowledgable tech rep about my concerns. What developed was a genuine concern and support for my wants, needs and desires. Not just to make a sale or fill a quota, but to satisfy the customer. After spending over 2hrs. on the cellphone and reviewing a half dozen varieties of options, we agreed on the ThinkPad T495s for my needs. The end result has been amazing. My ThinkPad is thinking for me with ease of use and it's faster all around than any of my previous models in processing performance and overall usability. I've even gotten praise at work for my increase in efficiency and accuracy.. The final score is 5 stars for my "Limitless Lenovo." Thank You.

The only thing it's missing is the extra two mouse buttons under the pad - I've had to do some adjusting and it's causing some carpel tunnel. Otherwise, I love the light weight for the processing power. 5 PRO 3500U Processor (2.10GHz, up to 3.70GHz Max Boost, 4 Cores, 4MB Cache), upgraded to 16G memory - but this has a much smaller drive, so keeping it clean to keep it fast. I'm a programmer and video editor and have been very happy with the response with all my heavy software loaded on.

The 400 nit screen gets really bright, so you can easily view it in harsh sunlight. Also the screen is very well color calibrated, great for photo editing. The laptop is really light, but has a sturdy construction. Also, you can't look past the fast charging of this laptop! It's like charging a phone! I can strongly recommend this laptop for anyone, who's using a laptop for work and some light performance tasks, like photo editing.

No removable battery like previous generations of thinkpads and I don't like that. I immediately got rid of windows and replaced the os with initially ubuntu 18.04. There were issues with the screen brightness and after switching to linux mint then to ubuntu 19.04 was the screen brightness resolved. I wish lenovo would have better linux driver support for their products as the fingerprint pad is so far not useable on ubuntu. The camera has a built in webcam blocker which I appreciate a lot. This is the thinkpad so the keyboard is as good as ever. The Ryzen 5 3500u is powerful enough for graduate school research and battery life is very good once installing tlp.

If you are typically a Mac user, you may struggle to download certain apps that are unique to Apple such as iMovie (which doesn’t have a Windows alternative). Otherwise, great product! I’m happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not quite ready for prime time... This new model was released without Linux lsupport. In Windows - great, no complaints. But after reimaging it for Linux Mint 20, it would not boot with battery. As a result I had to wait for support to send me a Windows stick to reinstall windows, backup my hard built Linux setup, load the latest Windows drivers, etc. All seemed good until again - I reloaded Mint 20 and yup, still wouldn't boot from battery. Support's position - the computer is fine in Windows, so you'll have to wait a few months until the Linux support is produced and made available. Really? And if then it still doesn't boot, my future option will be to again lose my Linux, send in the computer for a couple weeks, under warranty. Had this model - like all earlier models properly run Linux, this would have earned 5 stars. As it is, I am VERY disappointed in Lenovo - and I own 3 other Lenovo laptops. Shame on you!

There are some problems with the touchpad where it clicks when I'm not clicking but it's not too bad. Also I would prefer it to be louder and have more space but I'm just stretching for complaints.

My only complaints are the trackpad and the low amount of memory that is installed (8 gigs) with no extra SODIMM slots. The trackpad is ok but its definitely not as smooth as laptop with a glass pad such as a Latitude 7000 series. Overall great machine however, I recently returned it because I got a outstanding deal on a T14 with an extra SODIMM slot and a Zen 2 Ryzen processor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop, especially for students! I suppose I should give it more time to make sure, but I love this laptop! It's lightweight but sturdy, fast, and bright enough to see while outside (and with vision problems--it's hard to find a laptop that has brightness/contrast for vision difficulties). I really love it! I'm writing my dissertation, and it can easily handle the many programs, tabs, pdfs, etc I have to keep open all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sunday live-streaming A lightweight full function laptop. The AMD Ryzen 7, 2.3 - 4 GHz processor has enough power to drive our processing needs. However, since we use the laptop to do live streaming during Sunday services, a Thunderbolt 3 connector would provide added value. The full HD display is excellent for how the laptop is being used.
