I received excellent guidance from Dell tech support. My order was processed promptly. I doubled the amount of memory my computer had, but I still get "not enough memory" error messages from large Excel files. The swap-out of the memory was fast and easy.

RAM chip - decent chip
Increased operating efficiency, lag decreased. No more slow apps. Only issue is that the RAM chip was a little pricey, but with the chip shortage, it is what it is as I can't wait until things get better as my slow computer will just bug me another just like Covid did, haha.

Expanding the RAM in a 6-year old Dell XPS 8700.
Doubling the RAM to 16 MB has made a marked improvement in performance in my XPS 8700 desktop. Installation was easy. I will probably order another 2x8GB memory to double the RAM again. The excellent price makes this performance enhancement very cost effective.

Glad I bought the additional RAM, my computer's overall performance improved so I was able to access more apps and such longer before having to reboot and refresh the system.

Computer crashes
I wanted extra RAM for a desktop with 2 existing sticks of RAM (8GB total). I didn't think I'd need a pair of RAM sticks. I contacted Dell's support, and they told me I'd be fine to add 1 stick of 8GB. Well, I added 1 stick and the desktop crashed immediately. Okay, I thought maybe I needed 2 sticks. I bought another 8GB stick. Added both sticks. Then, the desktop started crashing sporadically. Sometimes it would stay up for a few hours, other times a day or so. I finally caved in and removed the two RAM sticks. Now the desktop has not crashed for over a month. These sticks of RAM were really hard to fit in, so maybe they just don't fit well. I am very disappointed in Dell. I buy Dell products because I trust that they will support existing customers, but this did not work out for me.
