Great add on!
High density, double-conversion on-line power protection with scalable runtime, these features alone make this a must buy. Works well for my Symmetra our environment.
Expensive consumable
Similar to a previous review of this power module, I feel that they are the weak point in the Symmetra UPS. We have a lightly loaded 16K UPS (avg around 30% load), and this will be the 4th power module we've replaced in as many years. If you are planning to buy a Symmetra, better budget at least 10-15% of the p
Blown modules
The Symmetra is a quality system overall, but the power modules have some kind of design flaw. I need to order 2 more after blowing another module today. I have gone through 8 modules in 5 years. That is not good for a critical business class product. Fortunately they work in aggregation so as long as you have
APC Symmetra LX 4000VA Power Module is rated2.33 out of5 by3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad DesignI have the Symmetra LX with these power modules. Over the last 3 years, one of the power modules short circuited and started a fire in my computer room Xmas eve day. I happen to come in with the office filled with smoke and had to take the extinguisher out. If it happened a day later, the room would have gone up in flames. Since then I've replaced the Symmetra power modules 3 additional times. They are $2k a piece now or you can spend $3.2k annually on maintenance. These Units all seem to be made in China and the performance reflects that, but the price doesn't.

To APC, this is a "throw away" part.

I have gone through 8 modules in 5 years. That is not good for a critical business class product.Fortunately they work in aggregation so as long as you have power to spare you will be okay until the replacements are installed. I needed to install a new Compellent system and a power module blew as soon as I powered on one of the disc array enclosures. The load was at 70% percent so it shouldn't have been a problem.
